Do I need another pram??

I already have a 22 month old dd and am expecting my second in September. I have recently bought a double buggy and already have a Zia for my toddler. I have also been given a baby sling so I thought I was sorted until I spoke to my mum yesterday. She asked me if I wanted to go shopping to look for a new pram for the baby, I explained that we already had the double buggy but she started asking what I would use when dd1 is at nursery and I want to pop out with just the baby. Basically she has convinced me that I NEED a new pram.
My partner just laughed and said "we don't need another one" but then he didn't think we needed a double buggy in the beginning so I'm thinking he's not the best person to listen to :P am i just getting a bit too obsessed with prams now or is it sensible to have one for the newborn?

If someone else could pay I always need a new pram, if I'm paying then I don't!

which double buggy have you got? can't you pop to the shops with one child in a double buggy?

You definitely need another one. If you don't have a lot of space, you could sell the Zia and get something suitable for either a toddler and a newborn.

Use the sling?

Not everyone finds slings comfortable enough to use them for more than a short walk. My back is only just about fixed after having a baby last September. There is no way I could have carried her in a sling for more than 15 minutes, let alone with shopping bags/changing bag/coats to carry as well. This may not be the case for you OP though, and a sling could be enough.

Oh get another ;) To be honest we had a Zapp for my eldest and we bought another pushchair for our new baby simply so we didn't need to keep altering the straps and cosy toes (pink one and we had a boy) each time. We even had a tandem that converted to a single but never mind lol! To be honest we use the new single every day and have since sold DDs Zapp.

Thanks very much for your replies, seems most of you agree with my mum haha. It has made me think of a few things though. I've been a bit thick and wasn't thinking about taking our double out as a single (it's a baby weavers tandem, I'm going to get it out of it's box today to see how it would be with just the newborn) Damn, I was already looking at travel systems too!!

If you do decide you need a new one you could always just an umbrella fold one suitable from birth (like a maclaren) so it folds up small and your DH will barely even notice it!

def get a new single, you don't want to be pushing round a double if you don't need to, a new pram would be lovely would'nt it [hgrin]

Ditch the Zia, they're rubbish and get a Techno. Suitable for bigger children and babies from birth.

I am assuming you would be taking both DC's in double pram along to nursery...
which would mean carrying the single with you...
taking DC2 out and switching...
leaving double at nursery...
then swtiching and carrying single again to get home

That seems a load of trouble to me when you could just push both DC's to nursery then go off with just DC2 then chuck DC1 back in on way home.

this is why p&ts or other doubles that convert to singles are so handy.
