Anyone used a soft carrycot in the bugaboo bee?

Hello there!

I have a 2-year old and am expecting my second baby in a couple of months. I have an old bugaboo bee, and am reluctant to buy a phil and teds double buggy, so was wondering if I will be able to manage with using a soft carrycot (eg phil and teds cocoon) placed inside the (fully reclined) bee (with toddler walking or on buggy board). I need a way of transporting a sleeping babe into our first floor flat, hence the need for a carrycot type thing rather than the bugaboo cocoon.

Has anyone done this? Does it work? Does it feel secure (ie no chance of baby and cocoon slipping out of buggy)? Does it fit ok length-wise, especially with buggy board attached? Which type of cocoon/carrycot did you use (there seem to be several different P&T cocoons ? presumably to fit in the different buggies ? but are they different sizes etc? And I think there are other similar soft carrycot type things on the market, eg britax etc, so interested to hear about pros/cons of the various options available)?...

Any experiences/advice greatly appreciated!

I have often wondered the same thing myself, can't help but maybe someone else will come along who knows.

The only thing I can suggest is to take your Bee into mothercare or babies or us and see if you can try anything suitable out in the shop. I would think you should be able to find something that would be suitable.

I always wonder why Bugaboo don't make a hard carrycot for the Bee to make it better for newborns.

because they want you to buy a cam if you want a carrycot i reckon, defeats the object of the bee being light one piece fold etc..?

Hi, no personal experience, but I saw on another thread that a poster had a friend who used a Quinny Dreami carrycot on a bee, apparently they fit using the maxi cosi seat adapters. Maybe worth looking into.

yes I think you are right there nicolamumof3 - it would just be perfect though with a carrycot wouldn't it.

ninjaturtle i have heard that as well, would they let you try it out in mothercare? probably not. If you had a friend with a dreami you could try it, don't know how safe it would be. Would a BJCM carrycot fit with maxi cosi adapters?

Argos sell the dreami, they have a 28 day money back guarantee don't they? Could be worth getting it from there, and taking it back if it doesn't fit, since it would be essentially unused.
Apparently the BJCM carrycot fit onto the baby jogger with the baby jogger adapters, (but not on the city mini) to fit most carseats, so I assume this would include maxi cosi seats, so in theory, it should also fit. This one will perhaps fit, for example.

I used a Phil and Teds cocoon in a Bugaboo Frog, in case that sort of maybe helps a little bit. It was brilliant.

The only other thing you could do would be to use a maxi cosi car seat on your bee, then you could detach it and take it upstairs with you but I know car seats are not recommended for long periods, it would depend on how much you were going to be using it. The Pebble looks like its a bit flatter than the Cabrio so might work for you.

I have a Bugaboo Bee and used the cocoon for DS, born last Dec. It was very nice in Dec. Kept him all snug and warm and does strap in securely. But, it might be too warm for a summer baby. If you want one on the cheap I could be persuaded to part with mine in a month or two for a very reasonable price. It is red.

Speaking of the Bee, do you have the footmuff? I can't seem to work that out. It seems to be made for the bigger Bugaboo in spite of also being sold for the Bee. But, maybe I have to turn baby round to face forward for it to fit.

I had exactly the same thoughts. I now use a p&t soft carry cot on my old bee and it works great. Carrycot sits on the flat bee seat but can slip on steep hills so you do have to keep it in parent -facing mode and keep watching it.

I would be wary of using anything not intentionally made and tested for the bee for a newborn tbh, but thats just my personal opinion.

Strix..bugaboo now make a 'universal' footmuff to fit all so yes it is a bit bigger.

Yes, I have the univeral. And, in my opinion, it does not fit the Bee and selling it as if it does is more than a little dishonest.

With baby facing me, it is too long and gets stepped on when we walk. And it doesn't really hook over the seat very securely. I thought I might be doing it wrong so checked the manual and I was not doing it wrong. It just doesn't really fit the bee as well as it fits the bigger pram. And it annoys me the bugaboo (whose products are not cheap) has sold this as a universal footmuff because it only sort of fits.

Can you have the maxi cosi attached with the seat unit still attached? I thought you could. So I guess you could attach the Dreami or the Baby Jogger carrycot with the bee seat unit still on, which would probably mean it would be more secure.
Perhaps the carrycot things used for the big Graco travel systems (quattro?) would fit, as could could probably pick these up relatively cheaply off eBay to try out.

yep mc adaptors fit different part of frame so can be attached with seat unit still in place.

Thats really bad about the fm where did you buy from? Can you see what they say if bought instore?

hi,
i've done this. got a cocoon for my old style bee.

it is brilliant ! fits nicely with buggy fully reclined and is secure and warm with hood up. its not attached but thats ok unless you are running or on very rough ground

all good except my baby is big and it wont last much longer - she is only 2wks!!
