Where to buy from (for good customer service and after-care)

Where did you buy your pushchair from and would you recommend them for good service or advise me to avoid them?

I have narrowed down the pushchair selection to a few models. One is available from several suppliers so I'm also thinking about where to purchase the pushchair from. Obviously price is a consideration but I am keen to get good customer service during and afterward.

As an example, I've heard nightmare stories about certain local independent nursery suppliers failing to deliver ordered items and produce refunds.

Two chairs are available at the Glasgow Pram Centre (www.pramcentreonline.co.uk/) and one is available there and in several other places including boots the chemist. I've spoken to one member of staff at the GPC who seemed good but would appreciate others' thoughts and experiences.

John Lewis are good generally and gave a price match promise.

I bought a silver cross buggy from John Lewis. It was awful and was really squeeky and leaning to one side within 3 weeks.

I didn't have the receipt but they found my order on their computer system and exchanged for a Mclaren.

I'd like to use JL due but the stock they carry (online at least) doesn't suit me. I may go into the local store and see if they have anything different.

For info I like the Stokke Xplory (OH hates it though), the UppaBaby Vista and the new MaxiCosi Elea. The Elea is new out this year but is available in lots of well-known places. Boots say they do a 28 day return (if unused) which sounds great for having a play around at home before the baby arrives.

Boots are fab, a clip broke on my nipper 360 after 10 weeksand they rep laced it with a new one without even asking what was broken. They also refunded on my mums maclaren triumph after 11 months when the brake broke. I didn't even have to be in when they came to get it, just left it in the unlocked garage.
If you want advice Oxford pram centre are v good

5inthebed · 03/03/2011 20:19

John Lewis and Boots are good.

I had a problem with the hood on my maclaren pram, and they sent me a brand new one as well as collecting the old one.

5inthebed · 03/03/2011 20:19

Sorry, that should say Boots sent a new one.

if you keep an eye on boots too, they often do double points offers so you get a fair bit of money back on your purchase that way.
(i bought a washing machine and dryer from them, they were cheapest i could find on the internet and i got about £50 back in points with their triple point weekend!)

John Lewis the best but Lullabys were also great with me when DD came early and we needed car seat, pram etc a lot sooner than expected...
Peppermint (online but also have some stores) were also v helpful.

McDreamy · 03/03/2011 22:53

I've bought from John Lewis who were great and also kiddicare who replaced a broken McClaren buggy twice with no problem.

tyaca · 03/03/2011 22:57

NOT bambino direct

tvfriend · 03/03/2011 22:58

Was trying to remember the company def to avoid- that was it- bambino direct (purely on mumsnet advice..)

SweetApril · 04/03/2011 09:28

Lullabys are great. Opposite problem to tvfriend - DD arrived late! So they hung on to pram, car seat and cot for me till I was ready. I bought my Xplory from them but it was some years ago and I don't think they stock them any more. Although I suspect they'd still be able to advise you on that brand cos they're very knowledgeable about it. Not sure about your other choices.

nobodyimportant · 04/03/2011 09:34

Twoleftfeet I don't know if they are still trading but they took my money for a buggy and never delivered or refunded. Had to get money back through credit card.
