Help! I am clueless!

Hi,

I'm a first-time poster in need of some sage advice on pushchairs. Apologies if this is going over old ground.

I'm pregnant with my first child and live in China. We'll be returning to the UK for a visit and want to buy a pushchair while we're back. Problem is, I'm finding the huge amount of info on google overwhelming and am pretty clueless as to all things baby. I also have a seemingly huge list of requirements, as follows:

Tight budget - less than £150 ideal although could stretch a bit,
Must be suitable from birth,
Ideally reversible handle/parent facing option,
Large shopping basket,
Must be as lightweight as possible - this is probably most important of all as I'll have to lug it up lots of stairs on the metro here,
Does not need to be a travel system or have a separate cot attachment.

I'm not averse to buying second hand from eBay if I have an idea of what I should be looking for.

Any advice would be very welcome!

From what you said above have you looked at the new quinny zapp extra?
Super lightweight, faces both ways etc, only negative is the shopping basket.
I think this may be approx £160.

what type of pushchair's to most people use where you are. WE went to Berlin and didn't see buggy all weekend we saw people with big prams that had big wheels for bumping up and down stairs on the under ground. That a small budget for something that sounds like it is going to have to be very strong.
Are the cheaper over here?

It really depends on the person. There are seriously wealthy people here with a lot of huge 'designer' prams but they often have drivers and so don't need to contend with the weight issue! Other than that, a lot of very cheaply made Chinese brands or babies carried in arms. For safety and decent quality, UK is a better place to buy for our budget.

Get a used one! I bought used and never regretted it. Got an absolute bargain and I didn't mind slamming it around a bit in and out of the boots etc. Also, you can sell it when you are finished for roughly what you paid - they don't have mileometers.

Yep, I think used could be the way to go as our budget is so tight. I need decent build quality as some of the roads are rough but my need for something lightweight is paramount too.

I'm pretty sure I didn't spend this much time on buying my first car...!

I too have the Quinny Xtra - it looks like it would meet all your requirements. Only downside is that it doesnt have the large basket you are looking for - but it is enough for the essentials. I love that it is forward and rear facing.

Mamas and Papas Venezia- quite rare and only on Ebay as they have been discontinued but they are quite good. Has a big basket, decent wheels, flip over handle and not too heavy.

Only slight issue is that the swivel wheels are at the back when handle is flipped so best off locking them, but if walking on rough ground you are meant to do this anyway.

I think the Xtra needs to be folded in 2 parts.
