stroller needed for toddler and newborn whats the best?

new baby due april 2011 and while i know its early to be talking about the birth i need to start saving for a new travel system and dont know what to get. my dd will be 22 months when baby arrives (all going well) and ill need a double stroller but i need one that's as light as possible and as small as possible. i was thinking of the icandy peach blossom twin but i suspect they are VERY expensive. can anyone recommend anything.

AFAIK the iCandy's are not small either.

When I asked in John Lewis before I had DC2, I was told that the only double they had that would fit in the boot of my Polo was a Phil & Teds Sport. It was actually smaller when folded than my single Silvercross 3D!

Have to say, I love it though. It's light, it's easy to use, it's amazingly flexible and both the children love it. I'd highly reccomend.

Have you thought about step/ seats that clip on the back of a single buggy (buggy board)?

I know its not what you asked but I have a similar gap between my two and brought a cheap (second hand) double buggy which my elder DS wanted out of fairly quickly, because he was a big boy. Invariably he'd then want carrying so I brought a two step buggy board like this. He could sit on the top seat and chat endlessly at me, kneel on the top one facing forwards or stand on either step. It also hooked over the handle bars of the pushchair when he wanted to walk, which made the pushchair easier to manoeuvre in tight areas like into and out of shops.

Just a thought.

I've got 22 months between mine and get on just fine with my Maclaren Twin Techno.

It's not light to push though. I've heard the out and about nipper is light to push but DD1 would never tolerate seats that reclined.

I think at that age, a double will save your sanity :-)

DD2 will be just 2 when number 3 comes (in 2 months) and have bougt a BJCM double.

I have yet to see a double that would tick all my boxes but the BJCM does tick many.

what a timely thread - I need to start thinking about this too with a 18/19 month gap. I have a lovely mclaren xlr but figure DS will be too young for a buggy board / me to use a sling on a prolonged basis. I use public transport a LOT - does anyone have any positive experiences of a double /tandem and London buses??

I'd say go for a sling and keep with a single stroller if you think your toddler will want to walk everywhere before long.

Otherwise go for the Out n About Nipper. It looks big but I've never found a door it wouldn't fit through (little cafes included) it's very light for a double buggy and is so easy to push, far easier than my Maclaren Techno XLR.

They have a great resale value on ebay too so you could always buy secondhand then sell on later for a similar (or better!) price when you just need the single.

Depends on what your expectations are.

Longivity- P&T as double then single
Ease of ue- BJCM so easy to fold and push
All terrain- Nipper light weight and can go almost anywhere but VERY laid back seats

We had the Out N About Nipper 360. It was the narrowest side by side buggy I could find (I wanted DCs to be next to each other and have the opportunity to communicate!), and also the cheapest.

Mamadiva - good point, the seats did seem more reclined than most.

I held off buying a double for 6 months, and I regret it. DC1 was 2.5 when his brother arrived, but we do lots of walking and so were more or less housebound apart from trips to very local parks. Bought the douible when DCs were 3 yrs and 6 months and it transformed our social lives (and my sanity!).

what size is the nipper folded? I have an older MB terraine that I love but it doesn fit in the car without taking apart, I drive a kia cee'd???

nipper 360 double will easily fit in the boot of a Ford focus with the back wheels off, no idea about other cars but the focus boot is not generous! They are really quick and easy to take off.
