double buggy for 2 yo and newborn

I have a 2.4 year old and am 36 weeks with No. 2. I was hoping to manage without getting a double, but my 2 yo is still quite little and walking everywhere or a buggyboard aren't reallly an option.

I'm trying to decide between an out and about nipper and a Baby Jogger City Mini. Any advice ladies?

Hiya congrats! I am 30 weeks and DD2 will just turn 2 when baby comes...I had the same dilemma and recently took the plunge and bought a BJCM double...I know 3 people who have it and LOVE it...I did a lot of research and I think it is a good .

The nipper was also a consideration (someone is selling a new one here for £200 (Maclaren) but ultimately it has a bigger fold and not a massive fan of 3 wheelers or air filled tyres...I have heard lots of good things about it though.

I'm leaning that way at the moment, eventually managed to find a shop that had a display model today, so am making my final decision over the weekend!

The other thing that might work for you given your toddler is a bit older is a BJC Elite or classic with a jump seat but you may need to get the seat from US or ordered for you.

Good luck whatever you decide...I must have considered every single double, it's a headache!

I love my bjcm double
for my 2.4yr old and newborn(well he's nearly 2 months now!)
,but I have to sell it as it won't fit through my front door(live in a Victorian terrace!) So gutted,only had it 3weeks Sad

I had a silvercross pop double, bought from ebay. It is quite small and folds almost as small as a single. DD was 25 months when DS came along, once she was almost 3 we swapped to a buggy board on the single buggy.

The BJCM was my second choice after P&T. Just seemed more compact than the Out & About. There was something I didn't like about the O&A but can't remember - sorry!

i have a phil and teds side by side classic twin (discontinued i think) and the reason i didnt go for an out n about was that several reviews said the upright position is in fact quite reclined, and i knew that would drive my older child bonkers. When i actually looked at some i realised that the seat really does look very reclined. Maybe they updated that, as it was 1.5 yrs ago i was looking.

And yes, measure your front door! Someone advised us to do it first, didnt occur to us....!

thanks everyone - after being pretty keen on the BJCM, We looked at both it and the nipper at the weekend, and my DD wouldn't even sit in the BJCM, and loved the nipper, wanting to go for a ride around the shop!

We thought the BJCM seemed much bigger (vertically, IYSWIM) to push around than the nipper although the fold was much more complicated than the BJCM!

We also found that we got £44 of advantage card points from Boots with the nipper, which made it considerably cheaper, so a nipper has been ordered. The recline didn't seem too bad, I guess we'll find out when we've used it for a while! Thanks again for all your input.

we got a bjcm cos it was easier to fold and the seat is more upright than the nipper. I knew it wouldn't fit in the house but thats nottoo much of a problem x

I'm looking for the same kind of thing, DS will be 18m when no. 2 arrives!

Confused about this thread though as I thought a lot of these side-by-side buggies were not suitable for newborns (??) Have I got this wrong?

We've got a BJCM single and I like it but thought the double was ruled out as its forward facing etc. ?

it is forward facing and for me that is the only down side, but there are peak holes in the hood. it is flat enough for a newborn, not totally flat but flat enough

Most of the doubles and tandems available are forward facing unless you go up a price bracket to something like a BJ city select or an icandy one, but as we already have a bugaboo chameleon which I'll be using some of the time I wasn't too worried about it! The side by sides that we looked at were all suitable for newborns - if you look at the spec for any that you are considering they should tell you what age they are suitable from. HTH

Thanks for that! I had trouble finding this info for some reason but yes makes sense, the lie 'almost flat' position seems to be the key. Excellent, must find a BJCM double to test out (big fan of the single downside being the overly reclined upright position) The nipper looks great too very helpful thread :) Hope it works out very well for you when no.2 arrives DoNotFeedMeBiscuits!

Cheers! the only place we found that had a BJCM to look at was mothercare btw - seem to be very low on stock everywhere.
