What's wrong with the Loola?

I am really tempted by a used Loola on eBay. I want something that folds up smallish so I can get it in the porch. I have a Britax Verve, but it is not sturdy enough and can't take a buggy board for my toddler. It's been a pain in the backside to be honest. Reviews say that the Loola is hard to get up kerbs? What is it that makes this a problem? Is it just harder than a big air tyre buggy? How does it compare to a maclaren type pushchair?

Sorry for all the questions - I really don't want to buy it and regret it! The verve nearly went over yesterday as it catches on every bump - forget kerbs!

Problems with the loola are its quite wide, and although its advertised as lightweight, its actually quite heavy to lift if you fold it with the seat on.
The kerb problem is because they put the handles almost vertically over the back wheels and more of the weight over the front wheels, to make it less likely to tip, unfortunate side effect of that is that the steering is heavy with a larger baby on board, and its almost impossible to get up kerbs.
I also found the raincover was a nightmare, and the basket almost impossible to get anything into, but that was the old style basket, they have rejigged it now. Also, I'm 5'9 and found the handles too low. They adjust, but only to a horizontal position, which was useless for me.

Of all the pushchairs I have ever owned, the loola is my all time LEAST favourite. That said, lots of people do like them, they are cheap second hand.
I would consider a mamas and papas pliko or a pliko switch, they have a built in buggy board, so no more kicking your shins, they are lightweight, much nicer to steer and fold up fairly small. (as small as a loola anyhow!)

Thank you! Didn't realise that bit on the pliko was a buggy board. I thought it would interfere with me attaching a buggy board!!

ya, its the best idea ever. I had one when transitioning from having a double buggy to a single, best thing I ever bought.
I truly believe that every buggy made should have a toddler board built in, save a lot of hassle.

Hi this is probably to late, but i personaly have had both, i have had a loola, a loola up and a pliko, out of all 3 def the loola up, no problem at all geting up kerbs etc.
Its really easy to push, unlike the 2 handled version and i thought the pliko handles were actually going to snap.

The prob with the loola and the pliko is the handles feel quite flimsy for the weight of the pram.

I agree with the basket issue although it is only the older models.

My sister has just purchased the loola and ha a buggy board on it and she says its fine

I think the pliko child step is only meant for occsional use its not very big.

Well i think the Loola is fantastic for the first 12 months, after that it is quite heavy but to keep in the boot it folds up very small and they are cheap, bonus !
