title says it all really. am hoping to get away with pumping up tyres rather than having to sort out inner tube .

can anyone advise please? Smile

The bicycle pump should fit Confused. Our ones work on the P&T sport and I pump them up every few weeks.

I get replacement tyres from the cycle shop, they just pop on the kids tyres. Less hassle than ordering on-line / Mothercare.

You need a special adapter I think. Find a friendly local bike shop and they should sort you out and show you how to do it in future - you'll have to pay, but it will be worth it.
But you probably will have to either mend or replace the inner tube, if it got flat then it has a hole, so it will get flat again unless you fix it.

RambleOn · 20/09/2010 20:57

Yes, if you get a new inner tube, it'll still need pumping up Grin

I use my car pump.

Honeydragon · 20/09/2010 20:59

Have you got the normal long adapter bit on the end of the pump?

Have you tried both ends?

Sorry if that sounds really condescending, but my freind phoned me up last year not realising this Smile

I can pump up my p&t(e3) tyres with a normal pump.
I've got this one.

I'm not sure whats wrong. (and am sooo not a bike/wheel person!)
Is there a clamp on the end of your pump? If so are you pushing it the right way (I instinctively would push it down against the tube, whereas it needs to actually flip out to pump the tyres).

There are two types of valves apparently, schreder and presta, so you might need something like this

moomaa · 20/09/2010 21:03

I have p&T vibe and it's a normal bike pump used here too.

BellevilleRendezvous · 20/09/2010 21:04

ooh thanks for all the quick replies!

no I don't have the wiggly bit of fabric-coated extension (is that what you all mean?). so the pump doesn't fit because there isn't enough space within the spokes to fit it onto the valve.

ok so need an extension bit and need an inner tyre.

next question, how easy is it to fit an inner tyre yourself? my local cycle shop is run by real cycling snobs (all stripped back racers, lycra etc) and they are very disdainful about buggy wheels. bastards. I bought my bike from them as well.

Sounds like you a Presta pump on a Schraeder valve. Pop the wheel of and go and see a bike shop. A little local on, not a big Halfords type one. They'll see you right. Where in the world are you?

RambleOn · 20/09/2010 21:10

How long have you had the buggy Belle? My P&T has a verrrrry slow puncture, so needs pumping up about every month or so. No need to change the inner tube though.

It is actually quite hard to change an inner tube that's this small. If you're going to DIY, I would recommend tyre levers and washing up liquid.

BellevilleRendezvous · 20/09/2010 21:14

eek tyre levers! right need to head back to the lovely guys at an independent shop in N London given the local one here is so unhelpful.

had the buggy ages, not used it in a long time. lent it out though and think it had the flat when it came back but can't be sure, it's been sitting unused for ages.

will go with the pump extension first then try bike shop.

many thanks for all the advice, I've never posted on this board before - you're all very helpful!

Tyre levers are not as scary as they sound - they're just little bits of strong plastic to help you wodge it off, but it is a pig to do the first time, so I'd definitely head for lovely independent bike shop.

sethstarkaddersmum · 20/09/2010 22:25

go to bike shop and ask them to fit slime tyres or similar anti-puncture inner tubes to it.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/09/2010 22:55

one in chapel market in N1 is good
