Your vote: Best pushchair for a newborn and 18mth old?

Hi all, I'm due in Feb next year when DD will be 18mths old and I'll need to get a new pushchair.

We are currently abroad where there is a fairly limited selection of pushchairs but I have an opportunity to view and buy a pushchair when I'm back in UK in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I won't be there long enough to do an extensive search and trial session so will be pretty much leaning heavily on what your responses are!

I guess the only criteria is that it is not side-by-side seating as I'd struggle getting it through doors etc here.

I'd love to hear any ideas, even if it is under "ones to avoid"!

I'm getting the Baby Jogger City Select.

I know I keep harping on about it but it really is the best double I have seen.

You can have baby in carrycot and your DD in the seat either facing you or facing out. You can also add car seat attachements if you wanted.

In 2 seat mode, both children can face you, face away, face each other or one facing you one facing out.

The basket is huge, The hoods are huge, The seats are adjustable, The hoods have 2 height positions and the footrest extends.

Adjustable handle height.

The pram can also turn back into a single when your DD is walking.

Also, unlike some other doubles, the child nearest you is higher than the front child so they both get a good view rather than one being stuck so far down to the ground.

It is expensive, but it was everything I needed in a pram and the fact it turns back into a single after was a big bonus for me.

One's to avoid: Well IMO the Phil and Teds. (And similar, Obaby XI, Britax B Dual) I just really really don't like them at all. (but I know a few people love them so don't rule it out just on my opinion)

I got a second hand Jane Powertwin Pro, would recommend but don't get a new one, DD is now pretty much outgrown at 2.5. 2nd hand good value. We paid about £400 if that helps.

you'd be surprised how narrow the side-by-sides are - my techno twin is eaxctly the same width as the Quiny Buzz

Sorry Lifeas3plus1 - I love my Phil & Teds. We've got the Vibe and still use it now DS is 4 and DD is 15 months - DD was so cosy in it as newborn and loves her seat so much now, she happily climbs in when it's time to go! Easy to push, adjustable hood and handle and a suprising amount of space in the basket (I never bothered with the panniers that a lot of people seem to have). Would recommend.

MrsB - maybe I do need to put side-by-sides back on the agenda...argh, thought I had at least made one decision!

The techno twin is really narrow but that also shows in the seats. When I started looking at doubles I looked at this one.

Put my ds in who was 13 months at the time, strapped him in and the poor bugger couldn't move. The seat was so narrow he was literally just stuck there with his arms out like a piece of wood lol.

If the seat issue hadn't been a problem then it was definitely a good pushchair.

dd was 2.6 when ds was born so was only in it when couldn't/wouldn't walk, so very happy to curl up and sit still!

That's the situation where I think it would come in handy. With an older toddler who was just using it for a quick rest from walking or for a newborn who generally just sleeps and would have room anyway.

Like I said, apart from the size issue (although must admit to having a very big child lol) it was a good pushchair. Just not suitable for the older non walking baby/toddler who still spends most of their time in the pushchair.

My dd2 was born in February this year when my dd1 was 19mo! I have a Phil and Teds and couldnt have lived without it.

The extras that you can get are great and both my girls are still very comfy in it and there is loads of room.

The basket was a pain in the bum to use until I realised that you can unpopper the sides!!

It makes a great single too.

I like the phil and teds sport. Hated the vibe and LOVED the Icandy peach.

My vote is with the Icandy Pear.
Love it love it love it.
It is now in single mode, Icandy Apple, and I love it even more.
