Quinny Zapp Xtra - (another thread i know but different question really): come and decide whether its the right thing for us please....

I am useless with choosing things like this.

We need it to be suitable from birth, reversible and reclinable (sp!)as well as lightweight and compatible iwth the maxi cosi cabriofix car seat.

We do have a m+p pram to use from birth (which we had for ds) also but for ease we'll be wanting to use the quinny zapp xtra seat unit (in reverse) sometimes. It doesnt look like the baby could lie totally flat as the seat dips down - Im still confused by this.

Is there anything (else)Im missing as to why this wouldnt be a good buy? Or why quinny in general isnt great?

Feel free to list pros/cons of it!

We cant seem to afford anything else which is reversible, reclinable and compatible with the car seat.

Years ago nearly everyone had either a Silver Cross Wayfarer or a Maclaren Dreamer/Superdreamer with that style seat that was used from birth...Silver Cross provided a wedge to make the seat 'flatter' for little babies but Maclaren didn't...I used the Bugaboo Frog seat from 2 months as my DD hated lying flat and not being able to nosey...Little babies shouldn't spend hours in car seats either.

I would phone Dorel and ask them if it is suitable from birth in the UK or not.

I had an email from Dorel to clarify the information about the Quinny Zapp Xtra and they state that it is suitable from birth without the use of a car seat.

Did you look at the red one? It has more pictures.

The seat is a bucket type seat so the babys legs would be in a sitting position when the pram is laid back for sleeping. Not particulary good for them stretching out really.

A big con:
I checked this in a baby R US and it is absolutely fab BUT you can only put the new born baby in it for max of two hours as the seat doesn't provide a compeletly flat back support for the baby! Be careful as this info is not mentioned by all shop sales reps as it is not formally shared. I digged as the seat is not flat and when you look at it you wonder where you put a new born to have a flat back? The seat is from soft material (no hard back support) and a part of it goes in (where a toddler's bum would sit) and there is no flat space where the baby can sit. To let you visualize, similar to a maxi cosi car seat, the seat is not flat for a new born. So I asked and aksed around and insisted to get confirmation that this is okay for a new born and then the answer was: yes for up to 2 hours and this time includes the time you have the new born in a car seat if your car seat has the same limitation. So if you drive half an hour to somewhere, you can only use the pushchair for an hour as you have to drive back for another half an hour! So be careful!!!
