What sort of estate agent review does this merit?

We’ve just bought a house and are being asked to leave a review for the estate agent. I might not bother at all but it does make me wonder what sort of review would be fair. I’d be interested in your thoughts!

When booking viewings with this agent when we were looking, it wasn’t unusual to wait in vain for calls back or turn up to find the viewing hadn’t been recorded in their books. But when they turned up they were fine, and always pleasant on the phone.

When we made the offer, we heard nothing at all for three days and only found out it had been accepted by calling them to ask.

It’s taken seven months from that point to completion. The agent responsible for the property has called us once, and never proactively emailed us. Pretty much all communication has been with our (excellent) solicitor. The only call we had was because she had confused our solicitor with the firm representing the onwards purchase.

It hasn’t been a particularly complex purchase but there have been long delays from our sellers who seem to have had very poor solicitors. The agent did no regular check ins or chasing of anything. When we did send queries via email, she would just forward on the sellers’ response to her without adding anything, which wasn’t that helpful. We were given no details of the chain we were in. But when we’ve spoken to other agents in the office they have been effective in finding things out.

The office basically seems to have some nice staff and we have no outright complaints as we haven’t suffered much from the delays. But I do feel that we and our solicitors have made this happen - left to the agents who knows where we would be?!

Sorry, I didn’t actually ask the question I meant to! Is this a normal level of contact if there are no major issues with the survey etc? I’ve bought and sold more than once and by the end I felt I knew the estate agent’s shoe size and favourite animal. But were those unusual and this is more normal? We’ve had no MAJOR issues but plenty of times when just nothing happened at all on their side.

I just wouldn't bother leaving any feedback at all. You never know if they might be selling your dream house in the future.

I don't do reviews.

I'd let it go and leave no review.

Possibly I’m less bothered by the review but now wondering just how crap they were (or weren’t)!

It sounds like they were pretty crap but not rude so I wouldn't leave a bad review in case you want to buy from them in future.

I do have an answer to their usefulness of sorts as I spoke to my solicitor today and she told me they were outstandingly poor in her opinion!
