Sloping garden and patio

We are just putting a patio into the garden of our new house

we are having built in seating in the bottom of the garden, we had this in our last house but the garden was on two levels with 2 steps from the patio to the grass area

its only just occurred to me that there is quite a slope from the house to the new seating area, in bad weather its going to act as a funnel! In the old garden the patio sloped very gently to one side and we had a small area of silver grating

now obviously the best thing to do would be digging the rest of the garden to make it more level. But A) thats a huge job and B) the rest of the garden slopes here and there anyway

the suggestion from the guys laying the patio is that we put a silver grate across the front of the seating area to catch the worst of the water

anyone had a similar issue? Or any other ideas?

thank you

What covers the slope? If it's planted with shrubs and plants etc with bare soil or bark then a lot of the water will soak straight into the soil and there won't be as much run off. Most of our garden is on a slope with a short retaining wall a couple of foot high at the base of the slope and it's flat beyond that with grass and patio etc and have never had any problems with standing water :)

Hi kyrae

so the patio will run from the back of the house all the way to the seating area, the slope is from the house down to the end of the garden

the patio is going to be tiled and will have gravel next to the fence

Im thinking it will only be an issue in really bad weather

ive attached a photo….not that it will help 😀
