We will soon be redoing our kitchen and want to re-do the floor. It will be tile effect vinyl to keep it in budget.

i am hearing the name Karndean and wanted to know more about it. I Is it 'posh'? Can you get the equivalent for a lot less?

What do you think?

Amtico is posh and expensive, karndean is cheaper but still good

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/03/2010 22:14

We have Karndean and we're very pleased with it.

It's been down for 5 years and shows no sign of damage or wear at all.

It's very easy to clean too.

ThinkingAboutSchemes · 14/03/2010 22:47

I was told Karndean is more expensive than Amtico. We have it downstairs (wood affect) in hallway, cloakroom, kitchen, dining room & conservatory & it is fine & does the job & is hard wearing so great if you have kids. When we moved in here we got the carpets steam cleaned & the guy commented on how fab the floor is & that it must have cost the previous owners a fortune!

Thinking, is yours wood effect 'vinyl' or laminate?

Ta!

hasve it like it

BariatricObama · 15/03/2010 08:52

i have marmoleum which is proper posh!

LadyThompson · 15/03/2010 09:32

I said this on another karndean thread but my MIL has had it in her new conservatory (a sort of dark wood look) and myself and DP think it looks horrid - just fake and vinyl-y. I believe it costs between£20 and £40 psqm so for that price (maybe cheaper!) you could actually have nice tiles.

JHKE · 15/03/2010 10:53

We have it but didn't go for a wood effect and its really nice... once of the best floorings I have had.
If price hadn't been an issue though I would have had amtico.

DinahRod · 15/03/2010 11:22

We have it in the hall, utility and kitchen and it's hard wearing and is easy to clean. The kitchen part looks amazing, as it has a simple pattern in it that picks up the black of the range and the American ff. Personally I wouldn't have it anywhere else as it is very hard underfoot, being laid onto a concrete screed. Amtico is more expensive. Really really good lino can also look good though.

Have you googled images of Karndean floors?

Sarahlou8 · 15/03/2010 16:57

I have Karndean in my kitchen, it was recommended when the kitchen was done.
It's warm underfoot, a doddle to clean, non stick, doesn't scratch and I would definitely have it again. I have the sandstone effect tiles, they look as good as the real thing. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Yup, we had it cos we couldn't afford Amtico! ebay was cheaper still. Would def buy it again...

JackSpratt · 15/03/2010 17:10

I have amtico
But my friend has kardean

Can't honestly tell the difference between them

said · 15/03/2010 18:50

We've got both (already in the house). The Amtico looks better (and is more expensive) but think both just look like posh vinyl, really.

NEILBATCHELOR · 17/07/2017 16:47

I would beware of this product. We are having some issues with are floor and every excuse is made as to why the product does not do what one would normally expect. Plus the public are not their customers apparently even indirectly. Is this a company that people should associate themselves with? Not in my opinion. Dreading that we have their product in our home now.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/07/2017 18:08

Looks like very very nice lino, nice for kitchens and bathrooms, looks nice and is practical, but imo lino looks weird anywhere else in a house. I've seen it laid with very intricate designs and it looks really clever, but close up it still looks like and feels unmistakably like plastic lino and out of place in hallways, dining rooms and living rooms.

PickAChew · 17/07/2017 18:10

Op is probably ready for another new floor by now, anyhow. 7 years, folks.

Why would you make an account just to post about your Karndean woes, on an ancient thread?
