Porlock in West Somerset.
Fowey, Cornwall.
Right down at the end of the Lizard in Cornwall

or West Coast of Scotland.

I don't know enough about the east side of Britain I am ashamed to say.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 13/03/2009 14:32

Chichester.
Great theatre but 30 minutes cycle from West Wittering beach and about 5 minutes from the South Downs.

pavlovthecat · 13/03/2009 14:32

I would still live in Devon, but slightly further into the countryside/sea (although I live right by the sea now). I think South Hams area, or the Moors perhaps. Yealmpton/Plymstock/Wembury type of area I think.

solowitch · 13/03/2009 14:32

Fimbo, I used to live(grew up in)Greenwich and it's a crap place now IMO. Actually, it was crap back then too, but it's worse now.

jumpingbeans · 13/03/2009 14:36

Polperro, Cornwall, right down near the harbour, next to the Blue Peter Pub.

Fimbo · 13/03/2009 14:38

I love it Solo, especially around Point Hill. Have earmarked my retirement home in Gloucester Circus!

We often go on holiday there.

solowitch · 13/03/2009 14:49

Gloucester Circus houses are lovely but the over all area of Greenwich....

My Grandma and Grandad used to live just around the corner from GC in a house in what was called Georgette Place. Now called Luton Place. The houses were all knocked down as were the prefabs that were in King George Street. Memories...

Fimbo · 13/03/2009 16:07

I live in sleepy Norfolk which probably has something to do with it - need to get out more

mosschops30 · 13/03/2009 16:11

Newcastle - because i love the city, the surrounding area and the attitude of proper northerners.
I miss it soo much

muggglewump · 13/03/2009 16:11

Right now, Durham.
It's where I grew up and it's lovely, DD would adapt to it easily I think.
Everything you need without being too big and amazing history, plus the setting on the river with the Castle and Cathedral is stunning.

I'd love to live in London really but not practical when DD is young.

Of course I couldn't even afford to move next door but I can dream!

bohemianbint · 13/03/2009 16:11

Cornwall - I used to live there and am dying to go back. We've been looking at houses there but there are just no jobs. Am gutted, think we'll have to switch to plan b.

JeanPoole · 13/03/2009 16:11

dorset

Geepers · 13/03/2009 16:14

I live in Bournemouth and can't ever imagine wanting to live anywhere else. I have the beach 10 minutes away, beautiful countryside close by, lots to see and do and I feel so lucky to live here.

In fact, I love living here so much, I don't really like going away because home is so fantastic.

bluebump · 13/03/2009 16:18

I do love living in Devon so I would stay here but upgrade to a much bigger house probably closer to the sea but i'm not sure where. North Devon rather than South I suspect.

Pre DS I would have loved to have lived in London, in one of those lovely town houses with the steps up to the big door in a lovely vibrant part of the city but hey ho I never did!

JeanPoole · 13/03/2009 16:28

geepers do the tourists do your head in?

twoluvlykids · 13/03/2009 16:32

I used to live in Brighton, and I'd like to move back there.

Alternatively, a bit closer to where I now live, Sidmouth in Devon (from one extreme to the other, I know).

Why?

I like character properties, quaint little roads and shops, and a brisk walk along a promenade.

Lmccrean · 13/03/2009 16:34

Oh, was in Sidmouth last year when I was planning to relocate to Devon to be with DDs dad. (now xp, but I loved Devon so much I still really want to live there)

Starbear · 13/03/2009 16:39

Near Bournemouth or in East Sussex. But love London too. I would be scared to move and it be too sleepy for me in winter.
Oh! Bath loved it there. I like the Peak district but only for a holiday. Basically wish I could have a holiday home. But then don't we all!

Saltire · 13/03/2009 16:41

Scotland

Mintyy · 13/03/2009 16:43

Woodwarde Road, London SE21

lalalonglegs · 13/03/2009 16:53

Oooh, I know Woodwarde Road - any reason in particular?

I have a fantasy of moving to Jericho in Oxford with the children and then retiring to a lovely Georgian terrace in Clerkenwell/Islington (near Exmouth Market) when they have all left home. To be honest, I am quite happy in Clapham but would like a garden sometimes...

Mintyy · 13/03/2009 17:11

this is nice

Lala - its only about 5 minutes walk from where I live now, but crucially is in the catchment for a reasonable secondary school. Its definitely my favourite road in the village because it borders my manor (East Dulwich) still easy access to Lordship Lane etc.

I've lived her for 12 years and am very happy.

Mintyy · 13/03/2009 17:13

P.S. Lala - I know Exmouth Market very well! I used to cycle through there on my way to work in Bloomsbury, another fine area, which someone else has mentioned on this thread.

EyeballsintheSky · 13/03/2009 17:28

North coast of Cornwall or St Just in Roseland on the south coast.

notagrannyyet · 13/03/2009 17:31

I'd go for west country, Wales, or Norfolk.

But rural east midlands isn't a bad second best and not many people seem to know about.

Certainly not London. DD loves it and it's nice now we've got somewhere to camp out for cheap visit....her place!
