Do you think this kitchen will date rapidly?

We're having a new kitchen as part of our extension plans, and a chap from Howdens is coming next week to discuss plans etc with us. I suspect I need to have more of a clue about what we want.

We intend to live in our current house for the forseeable future so want a kitchen I will love forever but also want to be mindful of resale value. So, what to you think of:

come on, be honest

Do you think it will date quickly, and do you think it is a love it or hate it kitchen?

I think it's lovely but I bet it is a love it or hate it for most people.

I like it. You could always replace the door/drawer hadles too as that is the only bit that would 'date'.

Also depends what floor/ worktop. I'd go for beech tbh.

yep, i do.

the high gloss is kind of odd with such a atraditional looking kitchen. and those handles will date before the week is out.

Um, hate to say it, but I think it will date, and I don't think it's everyone's taste (although it could easily have different worktops/accessories and be a bit less clinical).

But what I would question most, is how it will wear? If gloss gets scratched or marked, it shows really clearly, and do you really want to polish it every day to get the handprints off...

not really my taste and I think it might date. Also - be careful of rounded cupboards - we have them and they are a nightmare as you can't fit anything in them

i have pout as high gloss cappuchino one in the spare house and it looks lovely with walnut workt op was from diy kitchens excellent company fitter normally uses howdens but he said it was the best kitchen he had ever put in and the best designed (i designed it )

I like it but think it will take a lot of work to keep it looking like that, scratches etc.. also wooden worktops are a NIGHTMARE especially with kids as they wont keep it dry or make a sandwich and but into the top etc...

It will date because it looks a bit i-poddish.

It's nice though.

I've got a Howden's kitchen. It's been very good so far.

I like it but I do think that it will date rather quickly.

If you want something timeless then you will have to go for something like this more boring classic one

It depends on how long you intend to stay in the house. If you are staying longer than 10 years then I would go for the kitchen you love. After 10 - 15 years then there is a good chance that anyone buyign the house would put in a new kitchen.

I have no idea what I want. I've never had a kitchen that I've liked before, and I've lived in quite a few houses. I've looked at hundreds of kitchens on websites and in stores and I feel a bit meh about them all.

There are obviously bigger problems in life but we do need to make a decision in the next few weeks as work is starting on our extension.

Good points re scratches etc. I hadn't thought of that.

Are you doing up the house to move, or is this for your own benefit?

The first kitchen is beautiful, but probably will date, if not overnight. But if it was for me I'd have it

The second is perfectly ok, but less likely to date, so maybe a better bet if you'll be moving on sometime soon.

I'm not fussy on it I have to be honest - and I do think it will date, but you are the one who has to live with it not us - if you think in 3yrs you will hate it then don't buy it - your obviously not 100% certain of it or else you wouldn't be asking us - go with your instincts - if you really love it then get it!

Do you really? That is a very kind offer, are you sure? We are using Howdens because our builder suggested them, but it isn't compulsory, obviously.

DH is very, very busy at the moment so we are happy to go with someone who can design and fit because we just won't have time to do it ourselves, and we don't have a clue, really.

I think some good points have been made about gloss. DH is very keen on contemporary, but all we can agree on really is that we want lightish cabinets an worktops.

I did like the ones in John Lewis but not the price.

check out mfi space white.
its similar to the 1st one but the handles are nicer.
its what we have

this is a heavy duty household and there is not a single scrath on the high gloss white units we have
look best with walnut or beech wtops imo

We have a fairly new Bryant box on a housing estate. We've been here a year or two and are looking to stay here for a least 5 years plus.

The kitchen we currently have is falling apart (I think it was well loved by previous owners) and we are building a big extension on the back which will measure 7 m x 4m and will extend the kitchen considerably. It will be open plan to kitchen, dining room and will provide us with a big family room onto the kitchen. It is hard to explain but our kitchen will kind of stay as it is but there will be some kitchen units in the family room as well. It is quite small at the moment.
