Vendors selling house after only having it a year

Hi all. We are viewing a house this weekend that, if all looks good, we will most likely make an offer on. It's perfect for us.

However I've just done a quick search on Zoopla and the house last sold in December 2025. This has rang alarm bells for me, as the current owners have lived there less than a year before selling again. It was put on the market end of August so actually 8 months after they bought it.

Would this make you nervous? I will be asking the EA why this is the case, but wanted your opinions on whether I should proceed with caution? Thanks!

There could be a number of reasons

  • divorce
  • redundancy
  • new job different area
  • kids schooling changes
or
  • nightmare neighbours
  • problems with the house

be open with the sellers and just ask x

That doesn't mean you can't do it.

Edited

But it is extremely unlikely.

Ohhhh fab I love this approach! Thank you I will definitely say this!

I used to work sales, it was always easier for people to think they’d volunteered the information than for you to ask for it directly

I would be tempted to knock... is that the done thing though?

Could knock on the neighbours doors - easier to get an idea by speaking direct to them - the raise you risk getting pre prepared answer from vendor!

you could just ask neighbour what it is like to live there!
