Stafford/penkridge where to buy

I'm looking for a house or bungalow in Stafford or penkridge. If it's a house I would ideally like a downstairs shower room. I will need to commute to Birmingham occasionally so the train stations in penkridge or Stafford itself are why I'm looking around there
Which areas to look at and where to avoid please. Any help would be appreciated

Have you looked at Codsall, it has a train station, lovely coffee shops, couple of decent pubs. Very friendly and close to the countryside as well as having good links to Telford and Wolverhampton.

Problem with codsall I think it's one train an hour to Birmingham which isn't ideal

Stafford - Walton-On-The-Hill , Baswich , Wildwood , Brocton , Acton Trussell , Milford Radford Bank area. Very pleasant suburbs with housing stock from pocket of recent new build estates , 1960s -1970-1980s - a lot of 1960s bungalows . The Chase and beautiful countryside is nearby. Depends on your budget though . You could spend anything from from around 200k to a million . I grew up here and would see my late parents using the west coast mainline weekly from elsewhere in the mids . It was fairly easy to catch a bus or get a taxi from Stafford station . Usually an arriva going onto Cannock or Lichfield

Thank you will have a look at those areas looking at around £300k sort of budget, so I imagine lowers my choices in some of the areas but I don't need a massive house but I would like a future proof house with downstairs bathroom so I never need to move again preferably so that will reduce choices as well

Type in bunglows into right move . There’s a couple in Walton on the Hill up for sale . It’s a very nice “well to do “area . The one on Pine Crescent and Oak Avenue are in your budget . There’s a fabulous view of the countryside just there to the the Trent valley and you’re very near to Shugborough . Although Walton does not have a shop or pub - it’s a reasonable walk down to the small supermarket at Wildwood or a small parade of convenience stores at Baswich . I’m not local anymore but it’s a nice area . Stafford like many town centres has suffered and declined but they built a newer precinct and there’s some nice bars and restaurants the last time I was there. It’s a county town . Stafford is in no way buzzy or hip but it’s not grotty. It has some grotty parts area It was a railway town . Fun fact - the station has no platform 2 ! You’re well connected to go to most major cities too , Birmingham , Manchester , London etc

Don't want to find the house quite yet as I won't be able to put an offer in for at least 6-9 months but hoping to be able to have a good look online at what's currently available so I know which areas to search in when the time comes where I'll be likely able to find something within my budget

I agree with the above posts about stafford I grew up there and still visit family most weeks.

I’d suggest you look around the Newport Road area and Castletown and Doxey area as all are easily walkable to the station. Also there’s some lovely streets off the Wolverhampton Road eg Eastlands Kingsley Road then further into town Alexander Road, Meyrick Road, Cramer street. These, again are close to the station and easily walkable into town . Further out Moss pit is nice traditional houses on the Wolverhampton Road and there’s some really solid well built council houses - many of them owned around Nelson way, Poplar way, springfield drive etc it’s used to be known as the English Electric estate as it was built for some of their workers who were brought down from Scotland. You need to spend some time if you can looking around Stafford.

Oh and Cannock chase is brilliant a (not so) well kept secret

Wow your post brings back memories! I grew up on the English Electric estate (my dad worked there), although whilst I was at primary school I think the council bought the estate. My best friend lived on Springfield Drive 😊
They were solid well built houses, we had a big 4 bedroom house with a decent size garden.
I left Stafford 26 years ago but still visit a sibling there a few times a year.

ah my dad worked for GEC - I think they were English Electric originally? - I grew up on Wildwood too when it was a brand new estate ! I can remember the workers flooding out at the end of the shift on foot and bikes out onto the Lichfield Road and over the railway bridge . I feel ancient now !

wheredidiputmyphone · 07/10/2026 13:35

@MissyB1@onthespot42I remember all the men piling out of English Electric everyday and all the other factories and riding home on their pushbikes it was quite something to see. I grew up on Rising Brook. I always liked those English electric houses they seemed so well built and the estate seemed so well laid out. Another place I like in stafford is the houses off the Burton Manor Road - they were built for the managers of the BRC factory

MissyB1 · 07/10/2026 13:51

@wheredidiputmyphone oh those beautiful big houses on Burton Manor road yes I was envious of those! But the nicest houses were around Rowley Park - where the rich people lived!

wheredidiputmyphone · 07/10/2026 14:56

Me too. And the ones on eccleshall road

onthespot42 · 07/10/2026 16:53

My mum and dad ( & me ) always aspired to house in Brocton ! There’s some big gaffes along and behind the Cannock Road which is Walton High school catchment. Knowle Road etc
