Not happy with estate agent photos!!

I posted previously with pictures of my house and trying to make it look nice. The photographer came today and I hate their photos! Is it just me or has everything become a very stark white and cold and you can't tell where certain things start and end? What did they do to my house! Please reassure me that they're not that bad...

The red border pics are the estate agents, next to mine for comparison....

They do look overexposed. The photographer should be able to turn the brightness down. It doesn’t bode well the your EA has forwarded them to you without already making that request.

Tinkerbell7777 · 05/10/2026 16:13

Your photos are so much nicer

They emailed across their brochure that they hand out to clients and these are the photos from that. I was struggling to actually make things out on them!

Your photos are way nicer! Can they just use yours?

Savvysix1984 · 05/10/2026 16:16

Yeah the photos are a bit bright. Ask them to tone it down a bit. Somewhere in between yours and theirs would be ideal.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 05/10/2026 16:17

The photos are diabolical! I would be very unimpressed and ask them to redo

Sellingmyhousesoon · 05/10/2026 16:28

Thank you. I agree - diabolical! I've emailed back asking for them to be edited.

The EA photos are awful- can’t tell where the wall ends and the ceiling begins. Yours are so much better - it’s like a different property!

ShanghaiDiva · 05/10/2026 16:35

Btw house looks very nicely presented for sale.

LibertyLily · 05/10/2026 16:36

The EA photos are truly terrible and do your house no favours @Sellingmyhousesoon! Yours make the rooms appear so much more inviting. I'd scroll past based on their pics.

ThereIsSomethingWrongWithTheLeftFilange · 05/10/2026 16:37

Your photos are way better.

We had the same when our house went on the market. Before the agent came, I went round and took a load of my own and I am glad I did.

When we got the agents photos back to approve we were really shocked at how bad they were. Over exposed, everything looked a bit like yours, so white and cold and they had used a weird wide angle lens which made everything look strange. We were just horrified.

I emailed and told them we were unhappy and sent them all my photos. They ended up using most of mine. The external photos I have to admit were excellent and they got some awesome drone shots of the positioning of the house and the views which we could never have done.

Definitely let them see yours and tell them this is what you are looking for and give them a chance to improve them.

spiderlight · 05/10/2026 16:38

Your photos are vastly better. They make the house look lovely and cosy, whereas the others are massively overexposed and clinical. I would insist on having them changed.

Thats what I said when I saw them. I actually struggled to make out what was going on in each room, despite it being my own house!

I'll see what they come back with and if they're still bad, I'll send mine over, but brightened up!

I think your photos look very much better than the estate agent. My only criticism is that it looks as though you've taken decluttering to the extreme, and the house looks very stark and bare.

APlagueOnBothYourHouses · 05/10/2026 16:47

Theirs are ridiculously bright and every room just looks like Geri Halliwell has made it over.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 05/10/2026 16:52

Yours are lovely and I'd want to go and see the house.
The EAs are like an old style lunatic asylum and make me want to lie down on one of the beds with a cushion over my head to shut out the light and the screaming.
I am only half joking!

Luckily I went around and took my own too! Same day with same lighting and taken on my phone. I think I'll send all mine over now to be honest, I don't have any faith in what they'll send back to me.

Edited

I would (and did!) They may offer to come back and take some more.

I am almost amazed at estate agent photos. Looking for property ourselves and you would see some shockers. I would just think, why didn't whoever was taking the photo just move things so it was not in the shot? 😂

My biggest bug bears were photos with the loo seat left up, dressing gowns on the backs of doors, dog beds and bowls in the picture. Just MOVE THEM!!! 😂At least put the bloody toilet seat down for the photo.

AngleofRepose · 05/10/2026 17:33

Over exposure/auto brightness filter. The only one that is bearable is the dining room (?) - the one with the little table and chairs. I agree, your photographs are better.

I'm looking for a house right now, and I would definitely view if I were looking for a mid-terraced! Unfortunately, I probably need a bungalow at my age. 😑

Hoping so! I was expecting their photos to be so much better than mine, better lighting or angles or editing I don't know. I can't believe a professional photographer thought those pictures looked good. I can't believe the estate agents were happy to use them.

I agree with you, when I opened the thread all I saw was blinding white like clinical white. Then seeing your photos is like seeing a different house, yours are much warmer and inviting

The Estate Agent Photographer has edited them to be brighter - but they've gone too far! It makes your house look clinical rather than the warm, inviting look that it actually is.

I would contact the Estate Agent and say you aren't happy with the edited photos and say you have photos they can use instead.
