Driveway, sloped towards the house

We’re finally getting our drive done, after years of talking about it! It’s just grass at the moment & it slopes down towards the house. It’s going to be blocked paved as that turned out to be more cost effective surprisingly. I’m wondering if you have a sloped drive, what did you opt for, block paving, tar mac? How is it in winter with ice? I can just imagine me trying to walk up it & sliding back down!!

I have a slight slope and resin was recommended. It looks so good

Even though the guys who did it were complete cowboys and caused me a lot of stress.

I have concrete that was laid at least 40 years ago. The contractors used a plank held across it with the thin edge down to tap along the top and break up the surface so it isn't smooth, which seems to stop the ice apart from in the very worst weather.

There is also a drainage channel across the front of the garage. In the very heaviest rain a bit of water gets into the garage, but only a small puddle

Check your local building regulation / planning, it’s probably not allowed to just paved your entire front garden with impermeable block paving, due to the water runoff issue.

Check with local authority for guidelines. Only permeable surfaces are allowed and we had to angle slope away from houses and into main road where there is drainage.

Would you consider gravel (not shingle)?
It is permeable, fine in winter, burglar detterent (apparently), but depending on the slope it can gravitate towards the lower end.
