Hidden costs to consider when relocating to South Hams on £500k

Hey there, how are you doing ?

48yo, married with 2 children 8 and 10yo. Both girls.

Possible relocation to Devon, South Hams we are thinking of. Apart from the obvious costs, anyone got any hidden costs we should be aware of. Maybe like oil for example.

Also if you got any suggestions for places to live, ~£500k

Oil or electric if not on the gas mains.
Transport - check bus and taxi availability locally as well as transport to school. Probably fine at primary but if you don't want them to go to the local secondary they will need to use public transport or you'll need to drive them.
Maintenance of your house/home - a rural house with a big garden/land and outbuildings takes time and money to maintain.
Depending on how rural you're looking do think about the number of cars you'll need (one per adult) and mileage/cost of petrol/diesel. Electric cars are great but charging points are few and far between.

Appreciate that. We have an EV at the moment. I have made myself a website that looks at all the schools. On the secondary front am I right in saying this in preferential order

I don't know those schools I'm afraid, elsewhere in Devon but the challenges are the same.

The budget is half a mil so rural house with big garden and outbuildings isnt likely to be a problem

That is very much the top end of the budget TBF
