Capet on hardwood/LVT for living room?

We’ve always had carpet in the living room and I’ve never really considered otherwise. I was sat the other night and thought I wonder what a wood floor would look like and have it through to the kitchen.

what’s everyone’s experience? Is it a lot colder than carpet? Photo 1 is now with carpet and other is an AI mock up of what we’re considering.

Is your house a' warm house'? Ours is and when we swapped from carpet to Quick-step LVT it's still warm - I think there might be different underlays for LVT also. Anyway we really like it, it looks really good and it's much easier to keep clean. Also during the heatwaves we were happy that we no longer had carpet. :)

I’ve got LTV in the kitchen and I regret it so much, it marks and chips really easily! Have you thought about underfloor heating and tiles?

@sbplanet it’s a fairly warm house, it’s what I call an older new build (2003) quick step is what we have in the kitchen (the grey floor) and I like the feel of it as it’s nice and spongy but is definitely colder than the carpet but the kitchen itself is a colder room as it’s connected to the conservatory!

@Favouritefruits hi there - we’re talking on my other thread about my tattoo 😅 no I haven’t actually, I’d love underfloor heating! I’m really bothered by the smallest things so if it did get scratched I know it would annoy me 😔

If you've QS already you should know how tough it is. We had a new oven and the delivery blokes removing the old freestanding cooker dropped it on the hallway QS floor. I was dreading looking but there was just two very small dents. It's pretty tough! I did see a YouTube video where someone said they'd filled a small patch of their LVT with wood-filler - whether true or not I can't say as I didn't watch it to confirm, but...

We have hard flooring, but a massive rug, so to be honest I don't know there's a lot of difference. I wouldn't want to do without the rug-took it out for a party once and it was noisy, slippy and colder.

We don’t have LVT in the lounge as I do prefer carpet. But we have it everywhere else downstairs and I do really like it.

It definitely doesn’t hide crumbs or small bits of fluff etc as well as the carpet did. So we do end up sweeping more often than we would hoover a carpet but that makes it feel generally cleaner. It’s not noticeably colder in the LVT rooms than the lounge. We had tiles before and it’s definitely warmer than those were.

I switched over to carpet in my living room as it’s north facing and it’s made a massive difference to how much warmth we now have. I had amtico in my old house and looking back it easy to clean but no warmth.

We don't have LVT, but have painted floorboards with a large area rug in our main living room and will eventually have brick tiles with another large rug in the smaller 'snug'. Actually, we don't have fitted carpets anywhere and haven't in our last few houses. Each room has a rug though. Despite them all being old properties, we've never noticed it being particularly cold.
