Can I just throw away old Kindles and mobile phones?

Packing up to move and iv found 2 old Kindles and 3 old mobile phones.
Shall I just bin them ?

I don't think you are meant to though OP as someone might be able to retrieve your data? Can you do a factory reset which wipes it? Could you not then sell or donate to charity?

Take them to the tip and there'll be a place for old electronics, or do a quick search to see if there's a recycling point near you. Manufacturers are required to have programmes for dealing with old electronic goods. Proper disposal means the minerals can be recovered and there's less of a risk of battery fires - not a major issue for small devices but given we need all the rare minerals we can get it seems a waste to send them to landfill.

Don't bin them - they contain lots of
valuable elements, many of which (such as Lithium) cause huge environmental degradation when mined. It's better to recycle them. You could even make some money from them!

No you should recycle them. I'm not in the UK but where I am you either take electronics to the tip which has a bin for electronics recycling or to a specific electronics recycling point. They contain precious metals and minerals that should be recovered.

They cant go in general waste, due to the fire risk. They need to go to electronjcs recycling.

They can’t go in the normal bin because they contain batteries, which can start a fire in the back of the bin truck when getting crushed.

Amazon have a trade-in service for old devices. I don't know the details - I get e-mails about it but haven't followed the link.

Look on the curry’s website - they offer a recycling service and some things you’ll even get money for. A few quid is a few quid

There are usually easy alternatives in your area. Google local electronic recycling and I'm sure you'll find somewhere close by easily enough
