I am looking to buy a house with a budget up to £225,000. I just wanted to know what areas and streets in Gateshead are nice and which to avoid. I’m not from the area so very unsure. I want to be semi rural where there’s a nice walks but good transport links and shops.

Whickham, Ryton, Rowlands Gill - all on the outskirts and nice. Low Fell more central but nice and close to lots of facilities. Some parts of Birtley are lovely. Avoid central areas.

Bang on, although Whickham and rural don’t scan, imo. Bit close to the Teams. Depends where you’ll be working-traffic from Rowland Gill can be very busy if you’re working in say Newcastle. I’d want to go more towards Beamish, but I think prices are a bit mad.

It gets hard to ferry kids back and forth the further you go that way (apparently!) there are busses but now my friends’ kids are old enough to use alone, they appear to sometimes miss the arranged bus…!

Gateshead isn’t rural, none of it.

Visit areas, avoid Bensham.

Does it have to be Gateshead?
Chester le Street is just off A1 and A167
and you are only 5 minutes from Waldridge fell etc. You are surrounded by countryside and the beach is only a drive away!

Depends what you mean by Rural Whickham (expensive for the North East) Rowlands gill, Sunniside are are really outer suburbs but might fit Low Fell. Not rural but some green space similar prices to Whickham. Birtley again not rural but easy to get to the country side and put for walks etc but further out than low fell and less posh but cheaper. All of these places have nice bits but also less nice bits (lived in Gateshead my whole life) so would be worth going to look round and see what you think.
