Please tell me what this bit of my door is called

I’ve attached a photo showing the inside of my front door. Can anyone tell me what the bit circled in white is called? I need to order a new one (not for this door; for a door in someone else’s house - theirs is PVC, and broken) but I can’t figure out what it’s called.

I need to order one in white PVC. I’m assuming I basically cut it to size, remove the old one, put the new one in and caulk all round it; would that be right?

I don't know what it's called in the shop but it's a step to me!

Can you go personally to the outlet and bring that picture with you, or attach the picture to a customer service query maybe? Depends on what method you will use to purchase it I suppose.

Someone more knowledgeable might be along to give you the name of this.

I’d call it a door cill, don’t know if that’s right tho.

Threshold trim - I recently contacted the company that fitted our front door a few years ago with a very similar picture, and the same question!
They supplied and fitted a new one for about £30.

I call it a door sill. It is part of the frame, not the door. Yours is presumably hardwood. It would be quite hard to fit a new one, the door and frame would have to come out, it could be done in a day.

I don't know what's wrong with your old one. It might benefit from being sanded and restained. If it is in a sheltered porch it might last ten years before needing to be done again. You sometimes see them with a brass or copper cover. Copper is easier as it is soft enough to bend to fit. You might get one on a standard size that fits. There are probably people who can bend and fit one.

I see now you want one to fit a PVC frame and door.

Search for your local plastic door and window repair specialist. There is sure to be one because they go wrong so often.

Thank you all so much! I’ll contact the door company that we got it from. I’d kind of assumed they wouldn’t be bothered doing such a small job, but hopefully they will!
