Anyone else struggling with the stress of buying and selling in a chain?

Not sure what I'm looking for here - somewhere between a rant and a hand-hold I think.

I have found this whole process so stressful and a pointless roadblock thrown in by our buyer today has just about sent me over the edge.

We are so close to completion but still haven't nailed down a date as things keep cropping up. We almost had a date but then our buyers' solicitor needed a week to check something and so proposed a later date which our sellers then couldn't meet etc. etc.

I know a lot of people goes through it, in England at least, but why is it so painful?! Part of my issue is that I've never been in a chain before so it's been a challenge and I'll admit that patience doesn't come naturally to me though I am trying.

Anybody else close to losing it over the house buying/selling process?

We finally complete on a chain of four on Monday 🎉🥳🥳. Only taken six months 😵‍💫

@KrankyKumquat enjoy the break! I used to get annoyed when nothing had happened by a Friday as it was longer to wait for news but, like you, it’s a relief now. Chasing and replying to solicitors is a second flipping job!

@Broodingartist woohoo! 🥳 Congratulations that’s brilliant news. Lots of luck with your move.

We finally have a completion date! Crossing everything that it all goes ahead without a hitch in a couple of weeks. 🙏

How far away is your completion date OP? We’ve just set one to aim for, it’s end of September which feels simultaneously both really far away and really close 🥴

AlexFurbison · 13/08/2026 21:29

Just two weeks away - September does feel a long way off but it will come around quickly. We started packing a couple of weeks ago (we were hoping for am earlier completion date) but we still have loads to do. Will you start packing now do you think?

Oh that is quick, yours is probably based more in reality than mine as we’ve still got a way to go with the conveyancing.

tragically we’ve still got a fair bit packed up in boxes from last year, we couldn't face unpacking it all when our first chain collapsed. This time I’m going to wait till nearer the date to pack, just in case!

good luck with the next two weeks, the finish line is in sight!

Thank you, we've been waiting ages for a completion date so while I know it is very soon in real time, it's still a bit frustrating that we're not already moved. Focussing on the positives though!

Good luck with yours, I hope you have good reason to pack very soon!
