I'm so distracted and could do with some company whilst I pack, declutter and deep clean.

When do you move @apeaceful2026?

We move in three weeks today, I’m trying to pack a bit each day but seem to be failing most days now the kids are off school!

Heya @HettyCletter sorry I just saw this!

I haven't got an exact date yet as it's a mutual exchange and we can't pick a date until they've done all the paperwork, but hoping for around the first week of September or just after.

I did loads of decluttering yesterday and now I think I overdid it...knackered today 🤣

it's so hard juggling it all, isn't it?! Are you moving far?

Oh you’re much more organised than me! Moving house and country on Saturday with two small children and we’re in chaos! I wash I’d be as organised as you!

I bless you, i don't think I am tbh, I still have so much to do.

I think the things I've learned in my past moves, is that it doesn't all need to be packed perfectly.. It just needs to be in boxes or strong bags and any breakables wrapped in bubble wrap, which I usually leave till last. This time, I'm planning to have a small plastic box ready to chuck in anything miscellaneous I find on the last day. I always find I have more energy at the other end to unpack and reorganise, so it doesn't matter if some things get thrown in the wrong box- kitchen stuff in with bathroom for example.

maybe it's easier if one of you do all the parenting and cooking for a few days and the other do the packing. lots of ready meals for a few days also, so you can put the kitchen stuff away. are you going anywhere nice? have you got a removal company taking you over there?

Packing for a move can definitely feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to sort, declutter, clean, and keep everything organised at the same time. Having someone around, even just for company and motivation, can make the process feel much easier. I recently came across villa moving and packing services from a team that helps make relocations smoother by handling packing, careful moving, and the stressful parts of shifting homes. It might be worth looking into if you feel the workload is becoming too much or if you need extra support during the move. For now, maybe try setting small goals like finishing one room at a time and taking regular breaks. Hope you find some good company for packing and that your move goes smoothly!

How did it go? :)

Ahh thank you so much for asking! It went well however the removals company don’t actually collect everything and bring it over until tomorrow so that’s the next hurdle, just praying we’ve ordered a big enough lorry!
how are you getting along?

Me! Currently packing up our house for a move in three weeks (ish). The actual date hasn't been locked in yet, much to my frustrations but we have at least got a "week commencing..." date.

I was doing okay with the packing until I moved from packing books to packing glassware. Bubble wrapping stuff is so tedious!

Congrats on your move @Byron1990

Byron1990 · 03/08/2026 18:41

Thank you! With my newly received wisdom I definitely recommend buying a lot more bubble wrap and paper than you think you need. We went through so much and ended up wrapping the plates in throws on the last evening when we ran out 😂

AlexFurbison · 03/08/2026 19:06

Thanks for the tip - I thought I had bought a fair bit of bubble wrap and paper but after today's efforts I can already see we are going to need more.

If I ever move again (if I try, please stop me) I am going to pay the extra for someone else to pack up the house!

We have a large roll of bubble wrap that DH has kept for years, "in case it's useful in future" - looks like he was right for once 😂
