Sulking Room pink with fark furniture in a spare room?

I have a dark grey Ikea wardrobe for the spare room being delivered on Wednesday so the race is on for me to redecorate the room. I have the Sulking Room pink tester plastered all over and I like it and it goes with the carpet, which is neutral stripy with a sort of pinky tone to some of the stripes.

I'm just worried that with such a dark piece of furniture I need a stronger colour. I love strong colours but I have always loved SRP and thought this was my chance to have a room in it. It's on quite a dark side of the house and I leave the door open for the cats and to get some light onto the landing from the window that's in there, but I'm not a 'light and airy' person and can lean into dark and cosy if needed. My main concern is how the wardrobe will look with it as it's quite big.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Photo of the wardrobe?

I think Sulking Room Pink is quite a tricky colour - IMO it needs light from south or west to warm it up or else it can look a bit dead body.
Which way does this room face?

I think it would definitely go well with dark grey though and actually a big dark grey wardrobe will look best with a deep colour, so that it blends in, rather than anything white or light.

Would you paint the ceiling too?

Thanks both - and sorry about the typo in the title!

Here is the wardrobe

I don't know which way the room faces but it only gets sun in the morning and the opposite side gets it all afternoon and evening so I suppose north. My main worry isn't the room itself as no one spends much time in there apart from the cats. We don't have a lot of guests staying and when they do it's never for more than a night or two - this is an 'overspill' wardrobe for ds and coats! It's more the landing, which is square and has no window of its own so I don't know if this would make coming upstairs seem quite dingy and depressing.

I'd like to do the ceiling too though - not done that in any rooms so far so spare room would be a good place to experiment.

Come on OP. Pics of the paint? Pics of the carpet? Or are we just supposed to do our pen research??

narcASD · 26/07/2026 10:24

SRP is one of my favourite colours but I think k they wardrobe is too dark, can you show the room?

Giggorata · 26/07/2026 10:29

I’m not a light and airy person either, and I would go for it.

OnlyGreenClothes · 26/07/2026 10:29

I love SRP; looking at the inspiration pics on F&B website, you can make it "cosy". Calamjne is a nice pink too; it's brighter than SRP, would that work?

unistress · 26/07/2026 10:36

Oh god, room is a total hell-hole and used by kids as a bit of a dumping ground so don't know how useful any pics will be but this is the carpet and how one of the tester bits looked this morning - sun has now gone for the day.

MissBattleaxe · 26/07/2026 10:37

Do you think it's too close in colour?

I think they are both too muted that together they look sludgy

Ideal home would suggest SRP goes very well with dark grey furnishings! Carpet seems neutral enough to me.

If you get the sun in the morning, does the room not face east?

I've got Peignoir on the walls of my east facing room where it looks like grey-white and only has the merest hint of pink when the sun is directly in the window, so SRP is probably a better move!

unistress · 26/07/2026 11:05

Oh, I like that picture @CallmeMumchkin

Yes, I think the room is north-east - sun comes in at an angle in the morning. I'll paint the tester right down to the carpet and see how it looks.

Notice this room has lots of things to brighten it up though - white ceiling, white down to picture rail, white floor, light bedding and curtains, a mirror and lots of light coming in from a big window!

It’s the same for lots of inspo pics showing dark colours- there’s often a light floor and/or massive window or loads of white background pictures breaking it all up.

OP yours would be a lot darker than this due to carpet, N/E facing window, much bigger wardrobe and potentially painting the ceiling. Not trying to put you off but just saying don’t expect it to look like this pic!

I think the paint and wardrobe go well with SRP but I would probably be looking for ways to lighten / break it up eg light coloured rug, bedding, keep ceiling and woodwork white etc. The other option is to go full cave effect and have darker accents instead. But I think it will need breaking up somehow (either with light or dark) as all the tones are quite similar otherwise.

I’ve got sulking room pink with dark blue furniture

honeyfox · 26/07/2026 15:08

I think it's going to work really well!

Baielysfromashoe · 26/07/2026 15:09

It looks warmer because it’s being lit by a portable light because I was an impatient cow and wouldn’t stop painting

That looks wonderfully calming. I'm usually good at colours - or so I thought. This has really surprised me; I evidently need a little more humility. Farrow & Ball probably do a Humility 😉

EverMissWicklowSometimes · 26/07/2026 15:15

I think the pink and grey will go well together but I'm not sure about the carpet. All the stripes look brown to me.

Baielysfromashoe · 26/07/2026 15:16

We have no carpet now just floor boards
