What do we think to these kitchen tiles?

I love these, but are they old fashioned?

I think they're awful, really not a fan of that style of tile. Also, the floor doesn't look great with those cabinets; they clash too much.

I agree the AI 'modern' version is awful @kitchentileszz as I wouldn't have a sleek, operating theatre style kitchen if you paid me, my taste being more deVOL (albeit on a limited budget!) We can't all be the same...

As @Hideouslyhot says, go for the tiles if you love them...and hopefully you'll come back and share the finished kitchen!

Keep the first kitchen and don’t have those tiles. You won’t get sockets to
lie flat. Cleaning is impossible. In my view they are not kitchen tiles.
Why have tiles anyway? You can have an upstand if you have a stone work surface and then use a robust paint above or just have a tall upstand for splashes. Start looking at ideas in the KBB magazine. I think dull tiles like that don’t enhance anything. They certainly don’t look like a clean kitchen area!

I’ve attached some real kitchen photos from Farrow and Ball. They show up stands with paint above. Mostly no tiles but tiled in a cooker alcove or one slab of Marble to match a work top. So the backsplash is a continuation of the worktop. With wood (that’s seriously hard work to maintain) I’d have the wood upstand and paint but behind the hob maybe have a wipe clean plain panel to match the white of the cupboards.

I would highly recommend you look at real kitchens for ideas.

I wouldn't worry if something was fashionable or not (and strictly speaking 'modern' refers to a certain style), choose things you love, it's your kitchen. However, those tiles look difficult to keep clean in a kitchen, particularly if you regularly cook so maybe think about what it is you love about them. Is it the warmth, the texture, the colour, the irregularity of them, the handmade feel? Could that characteristic be replicated with easier to clean tiles or panelling? Look at websites like Homes &Gardens or Ideal Homes or LivingEtc to get an idea of what you like. Those kitchens are very aspirational and not many of us have a DeVOL, Poggenpohl or Uncommon Projects budget but if you know which of those you are naturally drawn to then that is a good starting point for designing a kitchen you love.

Like them. Think you would need the space to be quite big or the room could seem dark. I agree they wouldn't be easy to clean - doesn't look smooth

I like tgevones that look like they should be in a victorian loo. Ill get it done when funds permit

I don’t like them, makes me think more of The Flintstones, than a farmhouse kitchen. I wouldn’t say they were suitable for a kitchen as they look difficult to clean. But if you like them then go for it.

I’ve got slightly uneven tiles as an interesting contrast in my cloakroom. If anyone needs sockets on them, it’s impossible. They are not flat. They are cleanable as they are ceramic but having tiles like this in a kitchen is very dated. Just do a short upstand and use a paint on the wall above that’s cleanable.
