Do you like these Windows or not?

First floor extension of a modest 60s semi.

Do you like them or would they look silly? Should we just go for a regular rectangular window?

It just looks like a mish mash of styles, like you’re a window showroom!

OotontheRandan · 09/07/2026 20:03

No, that is worse.

Just use the same window type for ground and first floors. Line them up. This mish mash of windows leaves the house looking like it was built in shifts by different builders who have refused to communicate.

I still don't understand how the 'photo' ties up with the plan posted at 22:24 on 05/07/26.
Your photos appear to show the bedroom taking up the full width of the façade, with the windows symmetric around the centre line of the façade.
Isn't there a 2nd family bathroom taking up part of the width, so the bedroom windows would be symmetric around centre line of the bedroom-only bit. And there would be another window, for the bathroom?

I've heard it said that AI generally isn't very good on measurements. The pictures look pretty but don't tie up with reality.

Latest iteration is worse.

Pay an architect for at least some basic drawings.

Papyrophile · 09/07/2026 21:21

Actually, I think they look great. The property is hardly an architectural masterpiece, and with a blind to stop your neighbours watching you undress, it's a success all around!

MoaningLeeeeesa · 09/07/2026 21:27

I think they’re really ugly on the outside, sorry 🫣

BUT, if you like them and it’s your forever home, what does it matter if it decreases the value?

Daftapath · 09/07/2026 22:13

I think they would date terribly. So it’s a no from me. Also, what coverings would you use? Curtains, blinds …?

Laughing at AI putting the handles on the outside of the windows! 😆

I like them, but I’d replace all the windows with similar styles doing away with the unbalanced frames and quarter lights. So the original upstairs window would be divided into 3 panes with the middle one top hung opening.
The kitchen window would be divided into 2 panes, again getting rid of the quarter lights. One of the panes could be bottom hung, allowing the window opening to be at the top, for security.
