I want to move to the Cotswolds in the 1980s - where should I be looking?

OK I've clearly been watching too much Rivals but if I want beautiful countryside and quaint looking villages where should I be targeting for the start of my search?

We can work from anywhere. Currently live very rurally.

So you want somewhere retro? Blockley, Naunton, Brockhampton or villages around Deddington or Shilton. Bigger places are Burford and Winchcombe. Plenty of places worth a look but if you want a bit out of the way, you have to look past the chocolate box looks of Broadway and Stow on the Wold.

If you mean more metaphorically, then maybe the Wiltshire/Dorset border?

Bledington.

Filkins fits your spec.

Best to probably base yourself for a few days new Bourton on The water and drive the roads and villages up to Winchcombe, Broadway, across to Moreton and Kingham and back down to Filkins.

Cirencester obviously.

Yes sorry, I think I mean I want somewhere typically Cotswoldsy and beautiful but that is also a decent place to live and which hasn't been spoilt by lots of newer development.

We will obviously do lots of driving around but it's difficult to know what places are actually like to live in. Ideally we would be in a pretty village with a pub and a shop at least.

But will also take a look at the Wiltshire/Dorset border since I'm partly fixating on the Cotswolds due to a heavy dose of Rupert Campbell-Black riding through the fields in a white shirt..

Bisley, which was where Dame Jilly lived. Plus, buy a time machine 😉

@Miranda65 -- thanks to you, I have now fallen down an internet rabbithole about the 'Bisley boy' theory, which is weirdly fascinating...
