ok its a pretty open brief but i am getting fed up living in a small house that seems to cost a lot. Will we get anything more for our money or is just as expensive that near to london?

Bloody hell - I just read that as £500k an hour IN London!

noddyholder · 19/06/2008 14:27

Well in Brighton you could get something gorgeous in a good area near good schools

kaz33 · 19/06/2008 14:28

Probably my house - three bed semi detached (room for extension) in best part of Guildford with a 100ft garden, great view, one minute from the downs, easy walking distance of great schools (4-11), five minute walk to centre of Guildford

Cambridgeshire?

BigGitDad · 19/06/2008 14:29

An hour by train puts you in Brighton, Around Ashford is very good, rail links 30 min from London)Property is cheap there(relatively).

Anna8888 · 19/06/2008 14:29

Where do you need to get to in London?

Nice houses and excellent state and private schools one hour's commute from Charing Cross in direction of Ashford (Marden, Pluckley, Staplehurst or Headcorn stations).

Ryobi · 19/06/2008 14:30

ashford very cheap with nice surrounding villages

purpleflower · 19/06/2008 14:33

Manningtree train Station is an hour from Liverpool Street. It is lovely around that area.

artichokes · 19/06/2008 14:36

Which part of London will you be commuting to?

smartiejake · 19/06/2008 14:38

Billericay in Essex is nice. About 35 mins from Liverpool street. Fab schools (primary and secondary and one good independent) Low crime rate.

500k would get you a decent sized 4 bed detatched.

GrapefruitMoon · 19/06/2008 14:40

Lots of towns in Hertfordshire, 20-30 minutes to Kings Cross/Farrington, good schools.... should easily get a good-sized semi or detached family house for your money.

BigGitDad · 19/06/2008 14:41

You should be able to get a mansion in Peckham....

artichokes · 19/06/2008 14:42

No even in Peckham. We saw a small detached 4 bedroom house with a small garden in Peckham and it was £775,000 (admittedly on Dulwich side of Peckham).

Kewcumber · 19/06/2008 14:43

how many beds?

BigGitDad · 19/06/2008 14:47

Should be able to get a whole floor in a flat I reckon!!
Well near Dulwich what do you expect? There are some lovely parts there.

Kewcumber · 19/06/2008 14:47

brighton really? im going to do a search. I only know maldon in essex - i dont know the other areas but i'm going to have a look at all the ones listed.

we would need to get to near covent garden and canary wharf at the mo. i like st albans but it looks very pricey.

i dont know guildford but i think it was on one of those kirsty shows so i'll check it out too.
