... finding good tradespeople, such as electricians, plumbers and general handymen/women for doing big and small jobs? I'm thinking of independent traders rather than people who work for large companies.

My daughter has recently bought a flat in that area, so will need to find some trustable local contacts. She doesn't yet know anyone nearby to give her recommendations, so may need to rely on online reviews etc.

We lived in Shoreditch and would just use sites where you post a job request online and check reviews. We didn't have local people to ask and tbh it's often just one person's experience which is a bit of a gamble anyway. I find the advice to rely on personal recommendations a bit unrealistic in big urban areas really, it's more appropriate for smaller provincial towns.
Most tradespeople were fine, and none of them were awful (some were a bit lazy or unwilling to make a proper effort esp the handyman type jobs). But then we just avoided them in future.

I started with looking at nextdoor.com in the local area for recommendations. The electrician I'd recommend has now moved away sadly.
