How to connect existing aerial cable to TV after moving in?

Hi,

We have just moved in to our property but won't be getting internet for a while and really want to try and get our TV to work or at least a few channels! I've attached the ariel cable that is in the living room and our TV - what do I need to do to make this work as it doesn't fit?? Or won't it work until we get internet? Thank you!

It's missing a bit

Looks like the "male" end of the connector is missing. Also are ou certain the aerial is still in use?? PENCILUPNOSE 2x Male Coaxial Co-Axial TV Aerial Connector Plug (2 Pack) for Television RF Cable Freeview Metal : Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Don't think that is an aerial connector - it looks like a satellite dish cable connector.

outdooryone · 25/03/2026 11:07

That is a sattelite dish connector, not an aerial connector.
You need a TV or box with freesat = lots on Gumtree or Facebook.
A dish installed by Sky will face the right direction for Freesat too, so you do not have to pay Sky.

I think you need a female f type to male coaxial connector

I'd try an indoor aerial

Aww thank you for all your suggestions! If I got an indoor TV Ariel, would I just plug it in and it work? Or would I still need a box of some sort? Thank you!

Indoor TV aerial should provide all the Freeview channels. So the 5 terrestrial plus eg CBBC, Dave, u, BBC news etc
We you a Google Chrome device to cast Netflix etc from our phones

Indoor aerial should work, but they can have weak signal.
A Freesat box on Gumtree or Facebook etc will likely be same cost as an indoor aerial. I paid £30 for mine and it's done 10 years....

Get one of the flat indoor ariels. You stick it high up on the wall and works great for me. Just tune the tv. You’ll need freeview built in on the tv though.

Littlestmoo · 26/03/2026 08:51

Have you checked to see if you have an aerial on the outside of your property?

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who offered advice! We actually managed to get Virgin out really quickly, I'm guessing they had a cancellation, so we are all back up and running with only a few days of no TV :)
