Washing machine / dishwasher hose leak - how often do you check yours?

A friend has just had a really bad flood across the whole of her downstairs house, an old washing machine cold water hose ruptured while they were away for the weekend and flooded their house. I have never thought to check mine or replace them. How often do you replace yours? or check? Hopefully no one has been badly implacrd?

When there is water on the floor… we’ve just replaced our washer hose and it did wet the cupboards but they have dried. How did it flood when the machine wasn’t on?

the hose split near the top of the cold water feed do water flowed out.
