URGENT HELP- Radiator fell off wall and carpet wet underneath!!

Help or advice urgently greatly appreciated!!

Im in an upstairs rented flat and the radiator has come off the wall on one side! Will upload a pic.

Switched boiler off but carpet feels wet on one side underneath the radiator. I’ve put books under it to level it off.

What the hell do I do 😢Lone parent and worried it’s going to leak to the downstairs flat. Estate agent isnt open over the weekend.

Do I call a emergancy plumber? Please help!

Does the estate agent not have an emergency 24 hour number? Ours did, I had to call it once when our front door got jammed late at night

I would be getting in touch with the landlord
did they give you a number for repairs?
If you can’t get in touch and no repairs number then I would get a plumber out and get the landlord to reimburse any costs

Is it still leaking? Can you turn off the water main?

Sophiablue95 · 23/01/2026 21:06

Thanks all, I’m going to try and find if the estate agent has an emergency line now. I’ll turn the water valve off.

I was trying to get a toy dc had thrown down the back and had my hand behind it so assume it’s my fault 😫

You don’t need to tell them that 😅

Sophiablue95 · 23/01/2026 22:26

Haha I won’t @Calyx72 😂

The estate agent replied just before saying they will email the landlord but it’s dripping from both sides now 😭 just sent a photo to an emergancy plumber and they said the pipes but they have no availability tonight and that the pipe is very damaged 😩

I’ve put towels and trays underneath. I’m debating going to my dads as boiler and water valve are off and I have two dc under 4 but worried it’s will burst when I’m gone.

Sounds really stressful. Sorry this is happening to you with the wee children to deal with! Can you find another plumber even just to make it safe so you can go to family to it’s sorted?

Lucky you are renting so it is not your expense to fix (but also I understand it is a nightmare not knowing what action you can take without incurring costs)

if you haven’t already, switch off the radiator itself (ie set it to cold) as this stops the flow through the radiator (this is what you would do if removing the radiator to paint for example). Switch off the heating to the whole flat, again to avoid driving water through the system. Also if you can find a top up valve that tops up the heating system water, by the boiler, make sure this is off.

if you have switched off the water to taps, this is not necessary- it’s different pipes.
