Hello
I am looking to purchase a flat in a mansion block that is being sold by receivers. I’d be very grateful for recommendations. Doesn’t need to be London based. Many thanks!

I have used them in the past. Professional and knew what they were doing and experts in leasehold too

dont use Taylor Rose!

Use one near where you live now. You need to be able to pop in. Most small solicitors have conveyancing staff. Don’t use remote firms you don’t know.

Thank you! Definitely won’t be using online. I called up a local one with an excellent reputation, but they aren’t currently taking in any new clients as swamped!

I second this! Don’t use Taylor Rose! We had an appalling experience with them.

Sinclairs in Hendon are good

This is unnecessary, most conveyancers now work remotely. You do not need to have your conveyancer to pop into, there is no purpose to this unless you’re an older client. You’ll be dealing mostly with the paralegal and very rarely speak to your actual conveyancer.

There’s a need occasionally! Mine has certainly been in an office when we’ve talked face to face. Better service as they know who I am. Remote person doesn’t know you.

You shouldn't need to be able to pop in at all on this day and age and she would be better off using a solicitor used to the London market especially when it's a leasehold involved.

This is not true at all. There is not a single time during the entire process where you will need to see your conveyancer face to face. The person you call at the bank or utility provider also doesn’t know you but will tell you about your package and usage. They do not need to know you as they are not conducting a personal check against you or your health. They are completing a transaction on your behalf they are concerned with the legalities of your house purchase / sale. The identity check is usually done by a third party, and verified by the conveyancers. It’s a professional relationship they do not need to know you.

A remote firm is more than qualified to conduct your transaction.

Personally I would say go local and avoid online firms.

Yes you don't need to necessarily see the conveyancer but you might want to drop documents in and not post them.back etc.

Also online firms tend to use case handlers. Slows the whole process down.

Firms I deal with regularly and are good:-

Streeter marshall
Emin Read
Howard Kennedy
