Staircases - the good, the bad and the ugly

I have lived in flats all my life so I’m completely unfamiliar with this.

Carpeted, wooden, runners, etc.? What worked for you, what didn’t? What do you wish someone had told you? Did you make any expensive mistakes?

Plot twist: toddler and long haired cat. An explosive combo. I’m erring towards carpeted to avoid someone breaking their neck (likely me) if they slip. Again, wouldn’t know what kind of carpet to choose.

Thank you so much for all your help ⭐️❤️

Why not go to an independent carpet retailer and ask advice. Not the big companies, but those smaller ones who really know their market.

Depends on the age of the house.
Fairly modern - fully carpeted.
Period house - carpet runner

Not a fan of wooden stairs.
If you go to a carpet shop, they will guide you towards suitable carpets. Usually fairly short pile.
