From London to West England or East Anglia?

I've tried to find much anecdotal information on this but couldn't.

I'd like to know where is more ideal for a young family seeking the countryside/village lifestyle with good links to London. Picturesque walks outside your doorstep, old buildings, easy to get along with the community as a newcomer etc,

For West England, I'm thinking Gloucestershire/ Cotswolds and East Anglia, Suffolk and perhaps Cambridgeshire.

Tight budget however (under £400k) and want an old house (pre-1930s) with a large garden. :)

How often do you need to get into London - what is the maximum time you can spend on travel / how often do you need to be in London
