Metal railings and gate for front garden - London terraced house

Hi all,

We are just getting round to doing our front garden area after renovating and are in a typical London terrace. We need railings on 3 boundaries (5.5m total length) and a gate of 110cm. I’m absolutely shocked at the quotes I’ve just gotten in. I completely understand how much work and time goes in to things and having worked with every trade under the sun in the last 2-3 years.

Quote 1 - £5k which I thought was high excluding VAT
Quote 2 - £6k. The gate alone is £1100 excluding VAT.

Both from local steel / metal fabricators.

Most of the houses on our street have railings and gates and they look tidy so we thought we’d copy but this seems astronomical. Does anyone have a point of comparison?

I could just do the gate and front wall and leave the other two boundaries with nothing there but even that is £3.5K excluding VAT.

Has anyone in London found anywhere that does this for less? I’ve just spoken to a fabricator 90 mins away from London who can do the gate for £365 but doesn’t include installation and I wouldn’t know where to start fitting metal to a new brick wall.
