Electricity meter has packed in, house sold and handing keys in on Friday!

British gas are replacing it with a smart meter tomorrow, but can anyone in the know tell me if I'll be able to take a final reading as normal on Friday morning? When I googled it, it says the meter can take a few weeks to be connected. Is that right? In a long line of pain in the arse occurances, that would be the bloody icing on the cake.
Advice or sympathy would be most welcome.

The new meter will start from 0. The technician installing the new meter should take a final reading of the old one.

You can take a reading from a smart meter. (On mine you press 9 and it displays the reading.) Ask the technician to show you how to read the new meter yourself.

Omg!
Thank you so much for explaining it to me. I thought I was on the home straight and this has freaked me out.
I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. 💐

Yes, you will be able to take a reading straight away. What sometimes takes a short time is for the reading to show up on apps and in house displays. That's the connection part they are talking about.
Manual meter readings will be just fine.

Good luck with Friday's move.

Thank you. I was having a last minute panic.
It's a probate property and I'll be glad to see the back of it to be honest. It's been a long slog.
