Estate agent lied about sellers position. So annoyed. Can I do anything?

Not sure what exactly, we got the house at an absolute steal, but we were assured that the seller is moving in with partner so therefore chain free, and we are chain free so this was a huge attraction. Got the pack from sellers solicitor today and lol and behold… they need the proceeds from this sale to move out to next property… that sounds pretty chainy to me! I’m so cross, feel duped. I don’t have it in writing so it’s estate agents word against mine, which he told me twice! Just a vent I guess. Anyone else been here?

The seller might have changed their mind or had not been totally upfront with the estate agent.

Is this going to cause you any delay? Are they purchasing together or moving into a rental, or is she buying into her partners existing property?

I was about to say the same thing. It isn’t always the estate agents fault.

I had a seller pull out of a sale and they didn’t tell their estate agent. They found out from me.

They may not have told the truth.
You have a choice: suck it up or put your house back on the market (and ask EA to reach out to any other interested parties).

We had a very similar situation. Our buyers, we were told, were exchanging contracts the week after the sale was agreed and completing the week after.

After twelve weeks we discovered that they hadn’t exchanged or completed, because there was a problem with an extension they had built. Then it became apparent that, in addition, they couldn’t raise the money and couldn’t get a mortgage for the amount needed.

We ditched them and the agent immediately, went with another, sold in less than a week and moved in November.
