Spending 1/3 of take home on rent?

Currently living in a tiny apartment that's 40 minutes from work on a bus. I spend about 20% of my take home pay on rent. I'm saving for a deposit but a few years off yet.

I want to move and rent a bigger flat. This would be about 33% of my take home. My commute would halve and I would be able to have my elderly parents stay over.

Is it silly thing to do?

I’m pretty sure a third of income on housing costs is considered sensible.

If you can afford it and still save and it would improve your quality of life then go for it I reckon.
