I would NEVER buy a house with…

  • solar panels
  • a ‘garden house’ IE a lockdown special outdoor wooden shed dressed up as an office - usually taking up half the garden and completely pointless
  • a neighbour who has a load of cars / shit in their yard - hoarder vibes

who’s next? 3 things that would make you not buy a house…

In a previous place we rented, the houses had no wheelie bins, so you were just supposed to leave your rubbish in bags on the street. Some people put them out early and the rats got to them, it was grim. Also you either had to keep rubbish inside or put it outside then drag it through. The upstairs flats had no choice but to keep a weeks rubbish inside.

Yes this is same in an area a friend lives in Essex way. Crazy they literally have to pile up bin bags at 4/5am

A lot of people have white ceramic sinks farmhouse kinda style

Ah ha. I see. Smile Thinking about it, my DD has a Belfast sink in her kitchen, and that is white.

My cousin lives on a pretty little road with Edwardian terraces. They have alley ways between every 2 or so houses, yet 99% of the residents have their ugly wheelie bins at the front of their houses (no front gardens; they’re on the stone sett footpath). It’s such an ugly sight on a lovely road just because people are too lazy to wheel the bins in and out once a fortnight.

Oh how annoying. Sad

Neighbours who keep fridges, sofas, trampolines, junk in the front garden.

Stairbox in any of the upstairs rooms. Hideous things.

On a street with awful parking.

I do agree that solar panels aren't pretty. My solar panels are at the far end of the garden, not near the house, but I can still see them. However, having no electricity bills for the rest of our lives has reconciled me to them being there! (Also they are DH's dream and his big pet project, and they make him very happy!).

No bathroom window
No bath
No driveway

Happy husband and free bills is quite tempting!

Wouldn’t stop me buying but I’m going to add horribly ugly front doors

Open plan downstairs. Kitchen-diner not so bad but do not want my living room in the kitchen!
Downstairs bathroom ie no upstairs bathroom.
No hall.
No off-street parking.

I wouldn't have an ensuite bathroom or loo. Hate hate hate them! We pretty much rebuilt our house from a ruin and could do what we liked, so we made a little room off the main bedroom into my office, and another room into the upstairs bathroom! Some people would probably have done it the other way round!

yes its odd this....we have two food thread going at the mo....."does nobody eat sandwiches" and "food trends" and (so far lol) no one has made sniffy comments about "being grateful for anything" or "people who have to eat what they are given". I mean we can all dream can't we?

Oooh, I used to love my little stairbox bedroom in my parents 1930s council house. 😃 Fond memories. I used to put all my toys and board games on it. And keep my record player and records and cassettes on it.

I am now fascinated by what house you own
and where because you pretty much couldn’t buy many houses in my area of suburban Surrey

Why’s that? Does every house in Surrey have solar panels and a garden house?

Wind chimes are enough to make me commit a murder 🤣

Fuck yes. Don't get me started. I have one of those next door . Like someone repeatedly dropping a bag of spanners. They can't hear it. They're deaf! 🤬🤬🤬

i get the impression 1930s suburbs are not for you
