We’ve recently had a quote for double glazing - the back of a the house to include a back door, French windows and other windows (largely the uniform in size). It’s a smaller, much more straightforward job than the job they did at the front back in 2023. It’s a reputable company with good quality product and we know they will do a good job. But the price has come out much higher than we thought it would even allowing for inflation, employers NI increases etc. The job in the back is smaller by a third as well as being less complex than the job they did at the front but the price has come out at 25% more. They say they don’t negotiate on price but aim to give the best service and quality. We are happy to pay more for quality, but the price this time round just seems excessive.
They have quoted us an overall price. The salesman/design consultant has been pushy to the point of being annoying, but when it comes to it, says he is unable to give us any kind of breakdown, for example the cost of a closed window compared to an open window or even how much the back door would cost. He has indicated that there is a cheaper range with the same kind of finishing but won’t even give us a corresponding overall quote in the cheaper range. Instead we’ve had obfuscations and invitations to submit our own sketches of precisely what we want so that he can then give us another quote for the entire job. Is it usual not to give a breakdown? I would be glad to hear of the experiences of others. Thanks. 🙏
