Can you use an integrated fridge freestanding?

Not sure if this is the right board, but we’re having the kitchen done and I’m desperately trying to put a fridge in an alcove to give us more kitchen space. The only fridges narrow and shallow enough are integrated fridges, so I need to know if it’s possible to use an integrated fridge freestanding, and also if anyone has a clever way of adding a handle on to an unintegrated integrated fridge?

thank you!

Should work fine in my (non professional) opinion, you would need to order an extra door that matches your kitchen to the right dimensions for your alcove which may be troublesome, and get the kitchen fitter to batten the wall to the side (assuming you have literally an inch to spare) with a suitable bit of timber to attach the hinges to and then level and fit the door guides as usual.
Make sure you order all the right hardware with the kitchen too.

If you want the basic option you could get them to fix a door panel directly to the door but it might affect the swing of the door if it's close to a wall. Someone on site could probably advise better.

Thank you! The alcove is in a utility room so it doesn’t need to match the kitchen, although attaching a door front is probably a very good solution to the handle issue. Thanks!

Yes you will need a door attached just to balance the weight ( as well as giving it a handle) But other than looking unfinished, it should work.

I have a small intergrated freezer in a side area. It’s fine. It looks naff but no one sees it except me, so that’s not a problem.

@Slowgrowingelmthanks. is it easy enough to open without a handle?
@Dearg I hadn’t thought about the weight. Thanks

I’ve had an integrated fridge freestanding for years as I bought the wrong one. Works the same just looks a bit odd.

Brill! Thanks!
