how can I make bathroom wall shower proof

I want to get an electric over bath shower installed. I rent from the council & they are planning on re-fitting all bathrooms in early 2027, so it won't be too long before the whole room is renovated.
There are currently three rows of tiles above the bath with plaster walls which I need to paint, in bathroom paint obviously.
I don't want to spend a fortune on top of the price of the shower especially when the bathroom is being redone, not keen on having the whole area retiled or paneled. Is there anything (fairly cheap) I can fit myself around the overbath/shower area to keep the walls dry? I'd imagine even the waterproof and mould-proof paints would start to break down after a while.

Just try not to get the wall wet?

And use the fan / open a window for ventilation during and after a shower

You could hang a shower curtain against the wall?

Unforgettablefire · 13/05/2025 17:54

What about cladding? I’m sure it’s not expensive and looks really nice. My friend did this and it looks lovely and it’s easy to do.

I’ve seen round shower curtain rails so the shower curtain goes all the way around you while showering. Not sure where to find them but I’m sure they exist.

I saw someone on video, mid renovation, who had hung a shower curtain against the walls so the water ran into the bath, or as pp suggests, circle shower curtain rail. Bit small space wise though.

Circular curtain rails never occurred to me. I found a couple on Amazon. Thanks.

Can I use astonish shower shine on the wall panels in my wet room?

@Knuttyknitter yoi are probably better off starting a new thread as people never read all the posts and will probably just reply to the main post. Housekeeping might be the best place to ask something about shower cleaning.
