Knocking walls down

I need a wall knocking down. Also need a doorway made in another wall. My neighbour has had something similar done and was told it was t load bearing. The beams are running along side where the walls are. I e asked a builder to do the work and he’s meant to be coming soon but I haven’t heard from him and I just don’t think he’s going to follow through. I’m wondering whether this is something I could do myself? Total novice when it comes to walls!!

Do not do it yourself until you know from someone other than your neighbour that it is not load bearing and / or doesn’t need a party wall agreement.

Didn’t the builder check this?
If not, it’s just as well he hasn’t shown up!

Yeah builder checked and said non load bearing

So your neighbour’s wall is irrelevant, then?

Chase the builder and check he's still ok for the job. If you've already a date booked in with him then why would he be in touch in the meantime? He might check a couple of days before to see if you are still ok for him to come on the agreed date, but I wouldn't expect anything more than that unless there's details that need discussing beforehand.
As a builder id be very annoyed to have agreed work, turn up and find the job already done. He'd be losing out on wages with no opportunity to fill the time with other work. Not fair. If you want to do it yourself fairer enough but you should communicate this.

Non load bearing walls are not usually difficult to remove but its very messy and labour intensive. The making good can be tricky and you need to be mindful of any electric cables or plumbing that might be uncovered. I would not suggest that a novice diyer create a doorway themselves, they have to be quite precise or it's then difficult to fit a door.

@OttersAreMySpiritAnimalhe said sometime in may. Obviously I know what the date is. But it was a question about if he doesn’t actually come.

If he doesnt actually come find another builder and tell him why. As we're now in may ask him for a specific date.
