Massive anxiety regarding mortgage

Can anyone please tell me what “your case is now on the final underwrite” mean ?!

If anyone could calm me down that would be great. Applied last Wednesday via broker, had underwriters ask for additional docs (my p60 and wanted to know my last job before becoming self employed don’t know why) they also wanted a letter of projected income from accountant and latest sa302s, they had all that by the Friday.
I just want to know 😬

It just means it’s at the final decision making stage. The underwriter is the person who assesses sll
the docs and decides wherever to offer the mortgage

SilverBlue56 · 08/05/2025 11:28

Sounds like it's at the last stage before being signed off.

dogcatkitten · 08/05/2025 11:28

I would say they are just keeping you informed of progress, sounds good though.

majormortgageanxiety · 08/05/2025 11:30

I’m just confused as thought it was already with the underwriters since last week?

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 08/05/2025 11:34

Sounds like it's virtually there, good luck!

majormortgageanxiety · 08/05/2025 11:37

Thank you. I just asked the broker how long this normally takes now to hear back at this stage, he’s said 3 working days. So another long weekend, literally so stressed with all this now

Try not to worry, the lenders work at their own speeds sometimes but its not a bad thing.
They will have wanted to know what you did before you were self employed to see if it was in a similar field of work, which would give you a longer "history". I hope your broker is being reassuring and you get good news soon

Outnumbered99 · 12/05/2025 21:51

Hope you’ve had good news today @majormortgageanxiety?

Eminybob · 12/05/2025 22:21

What lender is it?

Halifax are super speedy if you go to them directly.
ours was done and agreed within an hour (twice)

LillethCrane · 13/05/2025 06:42

If it helps to know you’re not alone, our application was submitted to the bank via our broker on 16th April and we’ve still not heard back… it’s so stressful.

Amazingly fast ! Ours is through a broker, and I’m getting worried I’m annoying them now but I just need them to give Halifax a nudge, our buyers are all sorted, it’s us holding things up now

It’s so frustrating isn’t it !! Have you had ANY updates ?

I’m self-employed and mortgages always take longer to be processed/they always ask for more information, even when it’s with the same lender. They are also dealt with by more specialist underwriters so there are fewer of them which in itself adds to the processing time. Try not to worry.

Thanks for this. It’s the whole being in limbo that’s stressing me out, if I had an answer either way I could make a plan, but because I don’t it all just feels so out of my control, which I know a house move is anyway !

Spoke to the broker on Friday and he said it’s been approved, but they are going back and forth over proof of deposit funds so I’ve no idea how long this could take before we get a formal offer.

Great that’s it’s been approved. We haven’t got that far yet 😆 I feel like they’re going to ask for more stuff, dh seems to think they have got absolutely everything they’d need but I’m not so sure

I'm a mortgage broker and Halifax have been able lot slower recently with the 2 cases which i placed with them a couple of weeks ago. I think they've got some new underwriters who are being very thorough

Please don't worry 😊 easier said than done though I know!

majormortgageanxiety · 13/05/2025 09:26

Panic over, we’ve had the offer !! 🥳

Great news! Still nothing here- I think they’ve forgotten about us!
