Has anyone sold their house without an estate agent? We were planning to put our house on the market in the next few weeks. Last week a regular customer at my shop asked me if I was still planning to sell the house. I’d mentioned it last year. I said it would hopefully be going on the market in the next few weeks and he asked if he could possibly view it before it does. I asked if he would be in a position to proceed and he said his house is under offer. So he came today and loved it. His wife gets back from holiday tomorrow and he’s sent her the photos he took tonight, and they’re coming back tomorrow so she can see it. He said their buyer is pushing for a quick completion. We have no onward chain.
So there might not be any need for having an estate agent. Which would obviously save us a bit of money. But I’ve never sold anything without one. I just wondered if anyone here had any experience of this. My only niggle is that everyone that has seen it has loved it (two people looked last year when we weren’t quite ready, both wanted it but hadn’t sold theirs, long story short we decided to wait over winter). It’s an unusual, period property. The estate agent that valued it in February said he expected he would get lots of interest and possibly a sealed bids situation. So I’m wondering if we’re missing something if we don’t put it on the market. We’ve told the person £5k more than the estate agent said, so we’ve a little wiggle room.
I know it’s not a definite anyway. His wife might not even like it. Just my brain is racing.
