Carpet issues

Hi - posting on behalf of my sister who just got her flat re-carpeted, I mentioned to her how helpful mumsnet is for this kind of advice. Apparently the carpet fitter seamed the hallway carpet as there had been an issue with measurement and they didn’t have enough. He only mentioned it after my sister pointed out why it looked funny. Is she being unreasonable to be unhappy with the fitting?

Thanks!

Here’s another photo - she’s also worried that it will eventually fray!

If they measured rather than your sister then I would want a whole new carpet which has been measured properly.

Thanks I agree. I don’t think they’ve done a great job with the seaming but I’m not an expert!

That’s awful and unacceptable

Same. It jumped out to me even on the thumbnail picture. Not great.

Thanks all - will share this thread with her! She’s not the best at standing up for herself so hopefully this will give her some confidence!

I had this once same scenario and the join became more obvious over time and kind of folded in making it more noticeable.
It was my 1st carpet and didn't know any better.
Wouldn't accept that now though.

If done properly you shouldn't see the seam. I had a room which was too large for one roll of carpet and had to be seamed (were told prior to fitting) That carpet was down was many years and even with wear and tear, the join was hard to spot. Who provided the measurements as they will use it as a disclaimer, if you provided them? You have to sign it off and they will recommend adding an additional 10% extra carpet to cover any errors. Good luck.

Thanks! I believe the carpet fitter measured up, but there was quite a bit of time between measuring and my sister deciding to go ahead. She did tell him she was happy to over order vs not have enough.
